Bjork might be okay for a few minutes. What's with the 90's revival acts though? RHCP? Zzzz.

What's worthwhile on that list?

Air
Andrew Bird
Arcade Fire (The)
Fountains of Wayne
Gogol Bordello
Jose Gonzales
New Pornographers
Of Montreal
Peter, Bjorn & John
Regina Spektor
Silversun Pickups
Sonic Youth
Sparklehorse
The Good, The Bad and The Queen
Travis
Willie Nelson

... and half of those are just for novelty. I'd probably get bored pretty quick. I'd only pay attention for the entire set to the ones in bold. I've never seen Travis or I wouldn't list them at all.

I got a DVD featuring a past Coachella Festival and I was shocked how lousy a lot of these new bands were/are. I'm not talking about their songs but their poor muscianship/Vocals. The Headliners were for the most part good but the lessor known bands sounded worse than some teenagers garage band. Before that I had considered going to the festival but after that I wouldn't waste my time or money.

i wouldn't judge a festival by it's DVD, and half hte reason i am going is to experience the crowd and environment

How far away is Coachella from LA? Why not fly into PSP?

Palm Springs has a dinky little airport. Small planes and few flights. I'd be surprised if it wasn't dang expensive to go through there. Probably have to connect through LAX from most places.

I can't believe there are people going solely for Rage Against The Machine or RHCP, Bjork is the only redeeming headline. Ugg... I can't believe that most of my ticket price on Saturday is going to RHCP, a band who essentially remakes the same album every 2-3 years. I'm absolutely shocked by their continued popularity. If you are going for a single headliner and are not familiar with any of these other acts it is really a waste. Quite simply, most of these smaller artists blow the headliners out of the water in terms of innovation and consistency. I think you guys need to give some props to Jesus and Mary Chain reuniting too. Here's a list of my top 10 favorites here-

10. Andrew Bird
9. Explosions in The Sky
8. Jesus and Mary Chain
7. Interpol
6. The Decemberists
5. Grizzly Bear
4. Arcade Fire
3. New Pornographers (superb! Everyone should own the album "Twin Cinema" by this band)
2. Sonic Youth (am I the only one who thinks they should be in bold print on the flyer?)
1. Bjork (easily the best headliner)

Pete Bjorn and John, Girl Talk, Air, !!!, Regina Spektor, Tapes 'n Tapes, LCD Soundsystem, Junior Boys, Of Montreal (if they play) Ghostface, The Rapture, and We Are Scientists are very solid acts as well. Keep in mind that this is only the preliminary list, many more could be added. Some people were predicting the Police, The Knife and Sufjan Stevens.

The average concert probably runs about $30-50 for a ticket and probably lasts 3-4 hours. This is ~12 hours of music for $86. Seems pretty good to me.

Main reason I'm going is just to see them. everything else there is just side dishes compared to this main course. I'm glad I'm fairly local, it's only about 1.5 hour drive to there.
