Wanting to play Co-op steam games with my 10 year old Nephew.
Trying to keep blood and gore out of it.
Split screen (if possible) or same screen (think Contra) would be ideal.
I am open to any genre as long as its fun. We have been playing Mario super strikers (Gamecube emulator) and he loves that.
He asked for more options.
I have little to no knowledge of Indie games fitting this description.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Lego games are a great choice, especially for the little ones.

There's also the Trine series, but it may or may not be a bit difficult for a 10 year old.

My 8, 7, and 5 year old kids played Trine 2 together and beat the game, so as long as they are willing to work together, I don't think this is too hard for a 10 year old at all.

Agreed. My 8 year old has finished both 1 and 2 - he loved them both.

Good suggestion on the Lego series. He is very good at platformers but still learning FPS controls. Hes fantastic at soccer (even compared to older kids).
I forgot about Trine, another nice option.

Deathspank. Lots of bacon humor. Fun game.

I will look into Deathspank... thanks for the suggestion

There's also Marvel Ultimate Alliance, a slightly older game (and not on Steam), but my brother and I had fun playing it co-op. Quick search showed some used copies on Amazon in the ~$20 range.

Castle Crashers or Battleblock Theater perhaps, though you might find them a little too crude/mature.

I forgot to ask... can we both play at the same time same screen? That would be awesome. :)

Definitely. Interesting thing about this game is that one player takes the roll of Deathspank, the other as a support character (a wizard-like character, I believe). The support character has simpler controls due to his support nature, so if your son isn't adept at using a controller or you would prefer not to button mash, then you can control the support character. He still has lots to do, but Deathspank is the hero and focus of the game. Uses XBox controllers or keyboard, IIRC.

If you don't have Trine (1or2), I might have an extra key or Gift item that I can give you.

Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed is a great game for the whole family!! We have 2 X-Box Wirless controllers and works really well.......split screen for 2 players, but I think it can handle upto 4 players.

Oh and the Rayman games.

I have indeed played that and I agree its fun.

I did look at Castle crasher.. that one doesn't look too bloody, the other one I am not familiar with.

I own this in fact and love it. We tried playing the battle and it was cool, but the split screen seemed to be a little restrictive for viewing angles. (expected it)

Honestly since hes good at platformers I might just let him control the main character and I will support him. I just wish it was on sale. Its still sitting at $15.

Thanks for the offer.. sent you a pm

Another vote for Trine, Trine 2 and Lego games.

You could also try Monaco.

You need at least one game controller (preferably two controllers, one for each player) to play local co-op for all the above games. Especially for Lego games it is better if you have two game controllers.

I've never played this game, but am very curious. Gang Beasts, published by DoubleFine. The game is a battle royale with 4 players and looks absolutely ridiculous.
