Co-op shooters

I can think of Serious Sam 2.. and thats it..

there were a few older games that were, maybe Doom1.. Quake 1 for sure cuz I beat it with a buddy over 28.8.
Few other oldies, possibly Marathon..

but as far as new games theres even less.. am I missing any? SS2 pretty much tops my list.

I remeber Hexen being co-op, although I think we were playing it on a console, so I'm not sure about the PC version.

I remember seeing some stuff about co-op mods for games such as HL2, Doom3 and FarCry. Halo 1 & 2 offer some great co-op fun, but only on the XBox (the money grubbing idiots didn't include it on the PC version)

Co-op is a highly underrated aspect of game play. Multiplayer is fun and all, but you get too much ego out of it because it's most fun whent it' only man vs. man. Co-op is just as unifying (if not moreso because you can also get caught up in a story if you want) and the countless scores of bots you slay don't have feelings you can hurt or show a sudden lack of desire to play the more you pwn them.

I would love to play a game that required multiple heros (multiple players) to complete the game - playing at the same time and what not, many games take the role of hero trying to save the day and what not, sort of like playing through a movie or story - but many movies have multiple heros each one being just as important as the others.

Doom3 + last man standing + Classic Doom mod = awesome. Try it! The LMS mod allows you to play many things COOP including the original game.

LOL These both sound great and like alot of fun!

Alien Swarm (free) mod for UT2004. You're one member of a team on a bug hunt.

Didn't Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory have coop also?

It does, and it's pretty cool.

edit:

There's also svencoop for HL1. Basically you, and a few friends can play the entire HL1 game together 🙂 I don't know if its been modded for HL2.

Ghost Recon was my favorite co-op shooter. It's also great for dueling coz it'll show the direction of your enemy in radar screen so you don't have to play hide and seek which makes it quite intense in a duel.

Swat 4 seems like a lot of fun and is a game where you need to apply a bit of strategy and teamwork vs just shooting up the place. I haven't played it much but my kids play it a lot on my LAN with their buddies.

TimeSplitters 2 had co-op (splitscreen). Maybe you just want PC games though. I never played the other timesplitters, they might have had it too.

I haven't played Alien Swarm yet but it looks like lots of fun. I was reading through their forums and it's supposed to be pretty tough and squad size is best with 4 - 5 players. I'm trying to get my clan to set it up on one of our servers so we can play it once in a while.

Me and my bro play Alien Swarm alot. It is really cool. But I will admit it is DAMN hard.

co-op = playing through some designated content with a buddy.
deathmatch = free for all with your buddies
ctf = battle between two groups of your buddies.

Lot of FPS' now and days lack a real Coop (at least on PC, but i'm not picking up a console sadly just to play a gamestyle that should be availble on my pc). Halo on Xbox had a coop system where you could play through levels from the game with a buddy and you'd have to work together. Then you ramp up the difficulty so that it takes real effort and teamwork to beat.
While multiplayer is important in most every game that's comming out (there are of course exceptions) it just seems that the coop content is lacking
