cnps7000a install on msi k8n neo2

i just bought a cnps7000a-alcu from frys, and although the box doesnt say it'll work on a s939, i know the zalman website says it does so i buy it.

now i hv my pc apart, i realise that the backplate and 2 nipples (ref: zalman website) dont go down on the s939 as the install video says it should. the backplate's opening is smaller than the cpu, and the nipples' threads are too small for the existing slots in the mobo (ie, the go right in and dont grab).

did i get the wrong hsf here? or am i missing parts? or am i doing something wrong?

thanks for all your help!

Sounds like you are using the wrong screws or something. I got it on my Neo with no problem. take a picture of what all you got and I'll and see if I got anything different.

It sounds like you're trying to put the backplate on the front of the motherboard. You have to remove the MSI backplate and put Zalman's on in place of it (on the back of the motherboard).

I didn't think about that, but surly that isn't the case. We'll see when he post again.

Turn the board over, take a screwdriver and gently pry on each side of the backplate until it comes off. Don't try popping it off in one quick shot or you'll crack the board. Stick the Zalman-supplied backplate on just as the stock plate was, and then screw the nipples into the backplate from the front. Then you just merely tighten the heatsink down to the nipples.

so i finally install it correctly. checked all my connections, and power it up. fans turn, cdrom spins, but monitor stays dark.

i look at the msi d-bracket and it indicates that "the processor is damaged or not properly installed" (all LED are red). any ideas before i call AMD for a RMA#?
