Ratings has nothing to do with quality nor accuracy.

McDonalds sells far more food than any other restaurant in this nation. Does that mean they serve the best food? Of course not.

The same goes for FoxNews.

Facts speak louder than illogical liberal bias.

You talk about facts without putting anything on the table. Where are these facts that are done by "several independent studies." Name the source and links. Don't be Bill O'Reilly to defend Bill O'Reilly; have some respect for yourself.

On the other hand, what are you trying to prove by mentioning ratings? If it's to prove that they're popular, I'd agree. If anything else, I disagree. Remember when WWF, WWE, or whatever was(is) damn popular? You don't think it's all 'real' because they're popular, do you?

The more interesting point in this thread is that Bill O'Reilly made the EXACT same point as the Washington Times when it came to alleged media bias in politically motivated terrorism coverage. I mean the exact fucking point. And it's kind of a stupid point, since not only did the media cover the anti-military terrorism, but that has nothing to do with what happened to an abortion doctor beyond some cheap-ass political point scoring. Anyone who made that argument should be ashamed of themselves. And they should be doubly ashamed of themselves if it wasn't even an independent thought they had. Being an asshole is bad enough, being an asshole who doesn't think for himself is worse.

I mean of course Bill O'Reilly is a douche-nozzle, do we really need a thread on that? The more interesting point is that this is a perfect example of the right-wing echo chamber in action. No one who isn't a complete fucking moron would independently come up with that argument, the fact that two influential right-wing media sources did so suggests that any appearance of independent thought is an illusion.

Yeah, ratings are inverse factor for me. When the majority of Americans like the same things I like, I tend to reconsider my choices. Not that they're always wrong, but it's hard to underestimate the stupidity of the majority. The fact that the Democrats are suddenly popular has me worried as well ;)

The studies Patranus is probably talking about are the same ones that have been bandied around for years. The ones I've seen referenced use an incredibly questionable methodology of defining the median political viewpoint as "unbiased" and any deviation from that as biased one way or the other. And all of the studies I'm aware of were conducted during the Republican majority. In other words, according to most "studies", if Republicans said the moon was made of cheese and the Democrats said it was made of rock, the "unbiased" viewpoint would have to be that the makeup of the moon was uncertain. The studies compared media bias relative to the viewpoints expressed by the various politicians in office at the time, NOT objective truth. Probably because determining objective truth is actually quite difficult.

Thank you. The only people who should care about ratings are advertisers.

OTOH, maybe Fox viewers do think McDs is the best rest, and hence their expanded waistlines.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I also think that the stereotype of liberals being condescending and elitist is ridiculous, I have no idea how someone could possibly get that impression of liberals.

The truth hurts.

Bill O'Reilly? The name identifies him as the descendant of one of ours that we shipped over on one of those boats when we were doing a bit of social weeding. To our relief, I think the RMA period has expired.

Hey... as a fat angry white male (not old... sorry), I love my Cheeseburgers, Fries, and McNuggets. They are food made from heaven (surely, if I eat enough of them, I will be with the Gods).

Did I miss any intellectually stimulating conversation in this thread? No you say?

Nothing intellectually stimulating. Here's the condensed version of the thread.

1. O'Reilly stated something about the lib media that was false and later corrected himself on air.

2. O'Reilly labeled George Tiller as "Tiller the baby killer" and said that Tiller had blood on his hands.

3. Some nutjob killed the the guy who was killing babies and it's somehow O'Reilly's fault that the nutjob killed the killer.

4. Fox News sucks but has more viewers than all the other cable news networks combined.

5. Everyone of the people who are trying to feed us their version of the news is a douche.

:laugh::thumbsup:

I don't watch cable news much either but during election season it was interesting to watch these channels, more like the NBA playoffs...
I watched several different shows and IMO O'Reilly Factor was the most entertaining. This guy really knows his job, although he is a right wing nut he did make himself sound like someone in the middle and that made his show interesting to watch. His apologizing for his mistakes and misreporting was price sell, I guess that's the key of keeping his ratings up.
All the others shows were pretty much someone's bitch.

I've tried, but I've come to a decision that he doesn't deliver the news. He talks a lot though.

This. Popularity is not an indication for bias, it just means there are a lot of stupid people out there.
