CNN's coverage of the Utah Mall Shooting

Is it just me or is it a little tasteless to be putting pictures of the victims on the front page before they've even been publicly identified.

I mean, kids could see this ****** as well.

Front Page Capture

Is there a point where news is only news if it involves people dying violently?

A few minutes earlier there was a clearer picture of just the body lying it that same position.

Typical. It's nice being anonymous on the internet, isn't it? Then you can get away with being completely disrespectful. Perhaps you'd like to ask the family of that woman the same question, in person. It will have an amusing effect, just not for you.

That is so upsetting to see. I also was appauled to see such a very graphic photo of that poor woman on the front page. 🙁
This makes me so very sad.

I find nothing wrong with it. It's a dead body, death happens. It's not grotesque in any way. It is simply a picture of an event that occured.

It's disrespectful and it's the journalistic equivalent of ambulance-chasing, in my opinion. At least give the families time to grieve before you start posting their dead all over the internet.

And you know, the guy who did this was probably the type who thought it was funny to be an anonymous internet jackass, saying things like "did she drop loot?"

they not showing the face....what's the big deal?

Well, there were only five people killed, and two of them were 28-year-old women. I'm sure people who knew her could figure out who it was from that picture.

One of my co-workers that I work pretty closely with (I offered him a position within one of my departments) was there when the shootings happened. He was there with this wife and child. Luckily, nothing happened to them as they hid when the shooting started and then when the prick stopped to reload, he grabbed his wife and child and ran out of the building.

Obviously, he's not in to work this morning.

how do you guys know that it is a woman from the picture? it doesnt say in the captions and my first guess was of the gunman.

edit: doesn't bother me at all, not after months of looking at the front page of my local paper with pictures of victims of terror bombings in Iraq.

They said the gunman was wearing a trenchcoat and in the earlier picture you could tell it was a woman without all the people standing around her.

I'm glad he's okay. You always wonder what you'd do in those situations, but hope you're never in them.
