If Kerry were to be elected, he would be the richest ever. Not counting his wifes fortune either.

Good for him. IIRC the American Dream is to get rich. It would seem then that he has accomplished that with some personal responsibility and the desire to get a job and not collect welfare checks.

Willy paid $94K during his last year in office...just to put things into perspective 🙂

..btw, I cited total taxes paid...did not subtract any overpayments...

Not according to Forbes.

"Sen. Kerry, like the last JFK from Massachusetts to serve as commander in chief, is also extremely wealthy. We estimate his family fortune at $525 million, which would make him, if elected, the third-richest president ever. But the key word is "family." The Kerry money comes from his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, who inherited it from her late husband, Sen. John Heinz III of the Heinz food family. "

Who but a Rich Man can afford to run for President? That's why all those who run for President haven't a clue about the common man despite the BS they spout!

Yeah, let's get a poor president in the office. I mean it's about time we have a miserable failure that can't even hold a job or become a success to be the president.

As Dennis Miller (I think) used to say, who else would spend millions of their own money trying to get a job that pays 200k a year but a politician?

Kerry released his:

WASHINGTON, April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Sen. John Kerry has made public his 2003 income tax returns, as he has for past 20 years.

Last year, Kerry wrote "A Call to Service," of which had $89,000 in proceeds. Kerry is paying the taxes on the proceeds from the book and is donating the balance to charity.

The tax return also shows $175,000 in capital gains, from the sale of one-half interest of a painting, which was reported last year.

How much did he pay this year? Last year, he paid $436,972 in taxes...not quite 'so little' in my book. How much did you pay btw?

From the Christian Science Monitor:

"Bushes pay $225,000 in federal taxes

Posted: Tuesday, April 13, 12:51pm EDT

President Bush reported $822,126 in adjusted gross income for last year, on which he paid $227,490 in federal income taxes - or about 28 percent, according to the president's federal returns released Tuesday by the White House.
Bush and his wife, Laura, listed as income his presidential salary, interest and the investment income from trusts that hold their assets.

The Bushes' income and tax bill was slightly lower than the previous year, when the First Couple reported $856,056 in adjusted gross income and paid $268,719 in federal income taxes. For 2002, the Bushes paid about 31 percent of their income in federal taxes.

The White House also released the 2003 tax return filed by Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne. They reported $1.3 million in adjusted gross income and owed $253,067 in federal taxes. The Cheneys' 2003 tax bill - much lower than the $341,114 they paid for 2002 on just slightly less money - represented just 20 percent of their income.
"

Gee, wouldn't it be nice to pay only 20% in income taxes. Maybe when I'm rich I can pay much less tax than I do now...

Glad to see the tax cuts are working for somebody....

BTW, in other news: (Also from CSM)

Americans prefer balanced budget to tax cut, half of all Americans feel total tax burden has risen over last 3 years.

"Poll: People prefer balanced budget

Posted: Tuesday, April 13, 3:27pm EDT

By almost a 2-1 margin, Americans prefer balancing the nation's budget to cutting taxes, according to an Associated Press poll, even though many believe their overall tax burden has risen despite tax cuts over the past three years.
About six in ten, 61 percent, chose balancing the budget while 36 percent chose tax cuts when they were asked which was more important, according to a poll conducted for the AP by Ipsos Public Affairs.

As the nation's tax deadline of April 15 approaches, people's lukewarm feeling about tax cuts may be influenced by a belief that recent cuts haven't helped them personally.

Half in the poll, 49 percent, said their overall tax burden - including federal, state and local taxes - had gone up over the past three years. That's almost four times the 13 percent in the poll who said their overall taxes had gone down.

Even when it comes to federal taxes, most in the public don't feel their taxes have gone down over the past three years. Twenty-five percent in the poll said their federal taxes had gone up during that time, while 43 percent said they had stayed the same."

Being elected President: $200,000,000,000 (of other people's money)
2003 US Public Debt: $3,924,090,106,880.88
2004 Estimated Budget Deficit: $520,000,000,000
President Bush and VP Cheney's 2003 Tax Savings: $129,276
Giving yourself and the rich donors who put you in office massive taxcuts while sticking it to the little guy: Priceless

That statement wasn't meant to be made in defense of Bush... 😉

Just that looking at a president's income doesn't mean much and that I wouldn't think that I would want the 47 year old paperboy to be the president.
