According to CNN TV (Wolf Blitzer), the Petagon released information that they have deployed missle batteries to defend Washington after the latest round of chatter.

This is some scary stuff, the last time there were missles in D.C. was right after 9-11.

Something is going on here in NYC.

There have been lots of apache helicopters circling the city since Monday.
This morning on the way to work I saw 2 fire trucks and 3 bomb disposal vehicles fly down 14th st at around 70mph.

The fact that I haven't seen this on CNN webpage or any others is in itself very wierd, even if it was just one of those drills.

That may just be due to fleet week.

They've been here for a while.

As a side note, I got to see an F-16 doing laps over the county airpark (15 miles N of DC) a few weeks ago. I assume some Cessna pilot flew too close to something.

Nothing to worry about, this is the same bad US intelligence that led to the war in Iraq and was righfully ignored in recent weeks about possible al-qaida attacks.

there is a little chatter right now, they think AQ is trying to stage a large strike like 9/11 either in the ME, SA, or the US.

so how long could a cessna hold off an f-16?

Can an F-16 go slow enough to intercept it?

I suppose that depends on how heavily armed the Cessna was.

damn, that's a really good question. Generally they fly alongside you to escort you down, but I don't know the minimum speed for either craft.

I am willing to bet an f-16 could shoot one out of the sky if it was needed.

This reminds me of the simpsons where 2 F-15s tried to intercept the Wright Brother's plane that Sideshow Bob stole. :D
