CNN Town Hall - School Shooting

sportage

Lifer
CNN conducted a town hall Wednesday night.
Really interesting and not the staged photo-op we seen earlier with Donald Trump.

These kids are energized and I hope they can get something done. Make a difference.
As one kid said, why should it be up to us to get this done?
What this kid was saying, shouldn't the president, congress, and the Florida legislation be the ones doing this?
Great point!

It was so obvious that the NRA has a choke hold on most of these politicians.
Amazing how one organization could have so much control on everything, every law congress will or will not address when it involves anything guns.
And yes, there was one NRA spokes woman present at the town hall.

Marco Rubio "tried" to walk both sides of the issue, but Rubio and all of these NRA sponsored politicians should just come clean. Its not about the 2nd amendment or gun rights. It simply boils down to their fear of the NRA. Rubio should just admit that should he or any republican express how they really feel at heart about guns and banning certain guns, the NRA would spend whatever it takes to find someone NRA friendly to challenge their seat and have them voted out of office.
Just once I'd love for one of these NRA republicans to admit exactly that. Tell what is really going on.
Admit why they refuse to bend when it comes to doing the will of the NRA.
Their fear of NRA sponsored political defeat.

I call that blackmail.
And to allow the NRA to have such influence on American politics should be illegal.
To allow any organization to conduct scare tactics, blackmail, and threats especially going against the will of the American people, well their entire organization should be closed down. Exactly as was the case with the US government and the KKK.
The NRA is nothing more than a form of the KKK. Same tactics, same blackmail, same threats minus the lynchings.

A most interesting Town Hall.

I watched the Rubio debate and I give him credit for even showing up.

The NRA has a lot of sway over our politicans, but it's not just them. It's the system. It's corrupt. The sugar industry is another one. All corrupt.

CNN scripted questions

"Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Colton Haab said he was approached by CNN to ask a question at Wednesday night's town hall but decided not to after the network gave him a "scripted question," quashing one he wrote himself. Haab, a member of the Junior ROTC shielded students while the school was under attack from the shooter, said he was going to ask about using veterans as armed security guards.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Haab told WPLG-TV."

So?

A lot of that appeared to be scripted. Appeared, I have no proof. I thought Rubio and the NRA lady did remarkably well considering the emotionally charged environment they were in. At least they had the balls to show up, unlike the governors office and the FBI.

Well. What’s important is you got the accusation out there that it was staged, even in the absence of any proof whatsoever.

Man that would have been a great question to ask. Too bad no one else asked that. Oh wait they did? Well that’s strange since this says they didn’t want it asked. Maybe they were trying to avoid repetition. Having the kids prepared to ask unique questions in advance as opposed to making them up on the spot. Nah that can’t be it.

Where the bar is in American politics: applauding a sitting senator for showing up to hear from his constituents.

Anybody locate the spider hole Rick Scott is backed into yet?

Facing your constituents is one thing. Having the decency to face them in an emotionally charged and unscripted venue is something else entirely. Rubio deserves recognition, and if you care about gun control, you need to recognize the Republicans willing to engage in dialogue and introduce restrictions.

The NRA spokewoman repeated the same tired talking points. The NRA senses the tide is shifting, and they are pathetically trying to control the narrative. This movement has momentum.

For their part CNN responded to this claim:

Well that's the thing. As a politician your constituents aren't aways (or maybe even often) going to be happy with you. The interactions shouldn't be scripted. It is still your basic responsibility as an elected official to meet them. Just like back in the Obamacare repeal town halls some GOP pols met their responsibilities and met with often emotional and sometimes unruly people and a lot didn't.

The NRA kind of hit a zenith of political power in the last 10 years or so. Looking like what goes up must come down since younger generations aren't buying what they're selling.

Watching that town hall last night. I have 0 belief that any adult scripted those questions. The questions sounded like those of high school students. Junior-ROTC, question about more guns in schools? Let's put up a poll to see how long before this proven out to be a fabrication.

Isn't there a link in this thread to an article where one of the kids said CNN wanted him to ask a scripted question?
And now there’s also a link where a woman says she and Bigfoot are trying to have a baby.

https://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/...n-sexual-relationship-with-bigfoot-trying-fo/

Now I guess both things are true.

The topic of armed guards, arming teachers etc... was discussed at different times in the town hall. You’ll notice the people pushing this don’t seem to mention that fact. Do you think it’s possible they were pre screening questions to avoid repetition? Is it odd that none of the other thousands of participants and the dozens who asked questions are also saying the same thing?

More gun controls laws are coming. People with common sense win, the NRA and gun fetishists lose.

Apparently Dana Loesch of the NRA is presently at CPAC blaming law enforcement and the media. "Crying mothers are ratings gold". Also implies that she was unsafe at the town hall and would not have been able to getup out without a security detail.

Always wondered: do the Dems have something like CPAC every year, where they very publically organize an event where the big-monied party members curry favor with their coporate owners and rather hilariously fellate each other on stage, with no real concern for irony?

Asking honestly, because they must, right?

Yeah seems this is entirely bullshit. I’m shocked.

Haab wanted to specifically speak about former military veterans serving as armed security for schools, but it became clear to the network that he intended to give more of a speech than stay in the town hall, question-and-answer format, a source familiar with the production told Newsweek.

“We asked him to expand on his original question but the town hall wasn’t the place for a speech at which point his father declined for him to participate,” the source said.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Haab told WPLG-TV. "I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions."
