The person per square mile stats are pretty whacky. They just are killed by states that have mega-cities that don't illustrate the rest of the area.

NE has Omaha killing that stat, IL has Chicago. What do you think Nevada is without Las Vegas? Those mega centers that have incredibly high population densities just skew things completely.

I think you're correct; The US is clearly overpopulated in the places people want to live.
