Considering that its orbiting a Red Dwarf it may have been at one time habitable.

It would be interesting if there were already civilizations on this planet that came and went long before the advent of mankind.

Makes you think about how insignificant we are in the big scheme of things.

I actually started to do some research on this stuff the other day and when i saw where in the milky way the sun was and just how small it was and that it would take 1 million earths to form the size of the sun i realized...damn we are nothing in the aspect of the universe. The Takes 1 million earths to form the sun, the sun is a single star in our solar system, our solar system is a very small portion of our galaxy, our galaxy is nothing more than a spec in the universe....just creepy to really think about it.

just look for yourself...

I suppose you can look at it either way..glass half full half empty...still raised my curiousity enough for me to spend all day doing research on this.

About 21 years, if I did my math right.

speed of light = 299,792,458 m / s <-- from Google

There is only one picture of an extra-solar planet that exists, and it's contested. We just don't have the resolution available to visually resolve plantes from their stars yet. The TPF will though, but it's not due to be operational for quite some time yet.

I honestly looked for a picture showing earth in the galaxy but just couldn't find one. You have to remember though we are not getting a picture of our galaxy like we can any other galaxy being we are in our galaxy (i hope that made sense). Im just waiting for google to make a google universe :)

If i'm not mistaken, the reason for Venus's extremely high temp is mostly due to the copious amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Venus is essentially a self contained oven. Granted, it is still warmer due to it's distance from the sun (67million miles vs. 93million for Earth), but I read articles before which stated that Venus could actually be habitable if we found a way to convert all the atmospheric CO2 into Oxygen and Nitrogen (similar to our atmosphere).

The stupid thing is, it would take 56k years to send a signal and have it returned to us..

We really need to find a way to have faster-than-light communication

Don't forget relativity. The closer you get to the speed of light, the shorter the distance you travel. You don't even need to reach the speed. If you get close enough, the trip will occur in the blink of an eye. What we need is faster than light COMMUNICATION.
