CNN Interviewing Arafat Right Now

BDawg

Lifer
Christiane Amanpour sp? is interviewing him over the phone.

She asked whether the Isralies are trying to kill him. He said, what do you expect when they lob American missles and bom-Bs at us.

When she asked him what he thought of Colin Powell's request for him to halt the terrorism, he got really mad, said it was an unfair question and hung up on her.

Verrrry interesting.

<< He sounded kind of pissed. >>

Maybe he's just having a bad day. Getting your compound bulldozed and attacked has a tendency to do that 😉

She's back on TV now...I even spelled her name right!

<< If the Israelis wanted to kill him, he'd already be dead. >>

I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow died before it's all over. Whether it's the Israelies, his own people, or a suicide for martyrdom, is the question.

Yeah...poor little Arafat...he's always playing like he is the victim....the head of the nastiest
terriorist organization in the world.

All he has to do is call for an immediate cease fire and it would all calm down. Heck, this is
exactly what he wants, to be a martyr for the cause.

I wonder if he realizes that he is now in prison? I am sure it will hit him soon.

I have no proof of course but I bet if we (US) told them it was Ok, the Israelis would probably kill him. JMO

<< senail or however you spell it >>

senile

Its kind of funny that the new people keep asking Arafat if he is going to stop the violence with he is being attaked.

You're probably right, it makes sense.

I wouldn't say it makes sense. Short of a nuclear weapon being used it is probably the worst thing that could happen there. Even the terrorists who have been ignoring Arafat for years would use his death to further esculate the violence.

What is currently caught my attention is that there are a whole gaggle of talking heads on TV right now who are saying that the US needed to be more engaged and that we are partly responsible for the renewed violence. I don't think that is a fair criticism.

Chief, I mean it makes sense that why they haven't killed him. Cause the US won't let them. I agree it would be counterproductive.

Of course it's our fault. When somebody in Nigeria catches a cold, it's always somehow the U.S's fault. We are the root of all evil in the world.

I'm sure the Israelis don't want to make a martyr out of Arafat.

BTW, was it just me, or was he almost unintelligible?

The best one was Gores campaign manager saying that Clinton needed to get involved because he had such great success in the middle east.

We should do and try everything and anything but she was way off-base and just used it as an oppurtunity to take a shot a GW.

Seems to me the only reason that Israel hasn't eliminated the Palistinians is the US. Maybe we should not stand in the way anymore and let Israel go at it.

He's hard to understand anyway. Of course I would probably be hard to understand too if the building was coming down around my ears. Not to mention that stubborn laundry stain I would have.

Somebody made comment that *some* of the Palestine terrorist groups want the total elimination of Isreal as a nation; so if that's true it explains why they don't want a cease fire.

OTOH, it's hard to start a cease fire if tit-for-tat is your first priority. "Mom, he HIT me!". "Well, he hit me FIRST!" "If he hits ME, I'm going to hit him back!"

Who's on first? I get a feeling that both Sharon and the Palestinian terrorists only want elimination of the other, and any attack only fuels the next one.

He should have been asked what he wants his obituary to read, because i have the feeling he's going to have a fairly short shelf life at this point.

yea, but if we just take him alive, you'll get a bunch of hijackers demanding he be released... no win situation if you ask me.

Well then, how about this scenario.... we strap him into a jumbo jet, weld the doors shut, and put it on autopilot aimed at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad. The Iraqis can either shoot it down, or get a feel for what 9-11 was like. Either way, it's a win-win situation, and the irony is utterly perfect.

no, because then what davidsohmer just described will happen. don't get me wrong, we should still do something about him... i'm just saying that we're really kind of screwed until we get rid of all the terrorists, if that's even possible.

Saddam Hussein doesn't give a damn about the Palestinian people unless it serves his purpose. I have no doubt he would shoot the plane down in an instant.

yea, that seems like the likely scenario... i don't think he'd even flinch.
