CNN Election Coverage

I'm not much for Fox News - find it very biased towards Conservatives. Anyone who follows Rupert Murdoch is familiar with what he means by "Fair and Balanced" - he views the other stations as Liberal, and if Fox is the voice of the "Right", then makes things fair and balanced. Can't fault the logic.

Now to CNN - I've always viewed them as middle of the road, to slightly left - but only slightly. Watching them extensively though for the last 2-3 weeks (its pretty much the only TV that has been on in our house since we got back from vacation), I have been horrified to seen their perversion of the news. The formula is essentially to take a topic, get a partisan, PR-weenie, campaign hack from the McCain side, get another partisan, PR-weenie, campaign hack from the Obama side and let them yell talking points back and forth at each other. There is no insight, no investigation, no exploration of subtlety, no journalism, no nothing... Just outright hackery.

Its worse than Fox - and that pretty bad...

You just noticed this? This seems to be the standard format for all cable news networks these days. I remember a few weeks ago, when Obama picked Biden, one of the anchors was talking to a pundint about how Bush won Michigan in both 2000 and 2004. She kept repeating it over and over in her talk about Michigan being a battleground state and the station even had it in their bottom of the screen banner in big, bold letters. Gore and Kerry won Michigan in the last two elections. Simple fact checking, it's a lost art.

Don't even get me started on that whole Mass Effect/Sex Box thing from last Christmas.

Really I get this from all the networks. They should let the partisans on sparingly, as to let them air their views, but as a centerpiece of the coverage it is not useful. They distort the facts and do nothing but confuse people.

No actually it's not at all. Rush's definition refers to the fact that he thinks the media attempts to ambush people, distort the news, and not get both sides of the story. (he thinks this because he is a moron by the way)

This is just an example of a network giving into FOX style sensationalism and substituting yelling for substance. Sure that's bad journalism, but it's totally different.

Not to mention how Larry King seems to have become the main stage for some of the most crazy liberal people you could ever meet. That show has become so biased its hard to watch.

Example, he has the "conservative" and the "liberal" on the other night. Who was the conservative? CHUCK FREAKING NORRIS. WTF? Who was the liberal? Arrianna Huffington of the HuffingtonPost, one of the most liberal people you can find against a conservative lightweight!

At least they are getting campaign representatives for the talking points

Most of Fox's newcasters are walking RNC talking points memos

Both networks have a couple good people tho

CNN has Campbell Brown & Lou Dodd, .. they're ok

Fox has Caruto who's somewhat relevent

MSNBC has Chris Matthews (when he isnt around Keith Oberman)

The most retarded from each netwarok are

1. Hannity (Fox)
2. Oberman (MSNBC)
3. Larry King (not for bias, just dumb questions and allowed spin rants)

It's not so much an ambush mindset or a deliberate attempt to distort or be one sided... It's more that they report sensational news items without fact checking or verifying the information they are presenting. Then they move on to the next sensational headline before the actual facts of the first story can be clearly sorted out.

It's a side effect of the news industry being a big-money industry driven by ratings. Headlines, sound bites and "gotcha" grab people's attention more than well researched and well sourced stories do.

Finally something we can agree on.

Whenever I read your posts I picture a 15 year old kid who thinks he's got attitude and thinks he knows $hit. I know you are not, its just that I can't help it when reading the dumb crap you write.

In any event - forgot to mention that I also watched Lou Dobbs for the first time. He did a much better job of stacking the commentary with some people who at least appeared to take some very good swipes at both McCaine/Obama (and not from the other guy's campaigns play books...) and also gave praise when deserved. There was a real focus on issues, which was refreshing - lots of discussion of the changing geopolitical landscape with events in Georgia, North Korea, China, Iran etc and the role the US would play in the future. What I didn't get is what is Dobbs' major malfunction on immigration and securing borders. He seems a bit rabid on this one.

Son, i'm a Captain in the SAS, currently in Afghanistan, you'll find plenty of people right on this forum who can back that up.

I am just astounded by the complete crap that so many people are interested in.

The fact that i don't like you may be one of my problems with you though, i actually despise your daily gossip bullsheit.

Yeah I know... You don't really make it much of a secret.

Guys like you do really well in environments like the military.

I agree with the original poster, CNN has really jumped the rails in the last few years and it has rapidly accelerated now that they don't have Hillary Clinton to promote anymore. I used to watch CNN the most (before Lou Dobbs got his immigration obession), these days I rarely spend more than the occassional minute or two there.

Be careful dissed Chuck Norris-I've heard he can reach through the internet tubes and break your neck.
