Oh, how jaded we have become in six short months. On Sept. 12th someone posted here with a title of "How Many Jumped [from the WTC]" or something like that...and he was FLAMED big-time. It was just a question!?!?! Sept. 11 was a very touchy subject back then, and no one dared challenge the patriotism or sincerity of anyone affected.

Now 6 months later someone publishes a cartoon painting the families of the lost as greedy people who don't care about lost loved ones, and you guys find a way to defend it?

Pathetic.

<< Please forgive my ignorance, buy why did the Red Cross give some widow 3.2 million dollars? >>

HAHAHAHAHA. You believe that? I lost my father in the WTC. Did we get 3 million? No. 2 million? No. 1 million? No. 500k? No. 200k? No.

I'll have to ask my mom, but I believe 100k is the realistic figure for office workers. Families of firefighters will get around 4x-5x as much as office workers. Firefighters have their own charities set up for them, and they get to dip into Red Cross funds. Not very fair in my opinion. The widows will also recieve their husband's pay for life.

I'm grateful for what we have recieved, but idiots like Ted Rall polute minds of idiots. Making them believe this bullshit.

<< becos of garbage and trash from nonstop idiots such as O'Rielly etc who poison the american mind. either way the widows will be made fun of. i remember this guest a woman came on O'Rielly show and was very graceful and classy when she spoke abt her coping with the situation and her expectations from the organizations, yet O'Rielly was pressing her with thoughts and Questions which would make her look greedy, He repeatedly kept asking questions like "why be satisfied with 1 million when your supposed to get 2 million, it is your right to get all that money, have your spoken to a lawyer, these people are ripping you off, you should make sure that you get all the money anyway possible, are the organizations brushing your teeth, bathing you, wiping your ass and putting you to sleep and cr@pp like that".yet with all that pestering the woman was ver classy and kept saying "no im happy with what i got"...i dont need more money..this will be enough for my family. so what am i sayin..claim hard then ur greedy...claim not then someone ripping u idiots off.... >>

Bill O'Reilly did a great thing. The Red Cross and United Way wouldn't let go of the money. The Red Cross wanted to funnel most of the 9/11 money into it's general fund.

This cartoon offended me. Gotta run, O'Reilly is on.

This just in........ people need to get a fvking sense of humour and stop complaining about every aspect of their miserable lives. Get a hobby or something.

Won't find me doing it...sorry

Im sorry, but I fully support him. There are quite a few widows, that do not want to work and want quite alot more than they are being offered. Alot of the are being extremely greedy. I feel sorry for the OKC people most of them got very little if any at all.

Uh everyone in the towers plus rescue workers will be getting money from the US Government, to the tune of several hundred thousand, to three million. The more life insurance you had the less money you get. To my knowledge no one has gotten a check from the US Government, only the charaities. This is the point of the cartoon, there are quite a few widows, wanting more than $1-3million the Federal Government is wanting to give. Some fire fighter widows, want more too. Some are going to try and sue the US Government, the FAA, AMR and United, which, they WILL probably lose, and won't get anything.

Quite a few? Show me proof of it.

Walk a mile in our shoes before you put out comments like that.

<< Some are going to try and sue the US Government, the FAA, AMR and United, which, they WILL probably lose, and won't get anything. >>

With all the facts that come out everyday about the warning the government had, and the lax airport security, I doubt that.

Also let me clear something up. The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund money will not come from tax payers. It will mostly comes from the airline's insurance and frozen terrorist assests.

Well right now, there are about 22 sueing and possible more than 200 going to.

Sorry, people die ALL THE TIME. The OKC bombing victims got very little, if ANY at all, the managed to make it. It just happens guys making $250,000+ die, and their wives want millions and millions, one top of their insurance payouts. Im not saying all but there are quite a few that ARE being greedy.

Bah...I donated to charity after September 11 and knew that it was gonna go to the widows and the families and I'm sure lots of other Americans are the same. How can you call them greedy when they're receiving the charity money that was specifically donated for them?

<< Well right now, there are about 22 sueing and possible more than 200 going to. >>

Congress put a cap on how much liability the airlines have, which I believe is wrong. Let them sue. It's their right to sue.

<< The OKC bombing victims got very little, if ANY at all, the managed to make it. >>

I believe they should have recieved aid. It's not fair.

<< Bah...I donated to charity after September 11 and knew that it was gonna go to the widows and the families. How can you call them greedy when they're receiving the charity money intended for them... >>

Thanks. You worked for you money, and I owe you a thank you. The charities weren't being honest with the money at first. The Red Cross wanted to funnel much of the 9/11 money into their general fund, even though it was intended for 9/11 victims.

You dont UNDERSTAND.

The US Government IS GOING TO BE GIVING ALL VICTIMS MONEY. It will range from a few hundred thousand to $3million. This money is coming from every tax payer, the Federal Government did not do this for OKC. The more life insurance money you had, the less money you get from the US Government, the less insurance, the more you get.

Its plain and simple, the 9-11 victims are getting charity money, and government money, and for several/quite a few, its not enough.

The airlines arent liable for the two towers, and if need be it will be proven so in court. The people at fault ARE dead. You can still sue the airlines, you just cant claim any money from the US Government. Most lawyers that have been on the media, encourge people to settle, because its going to be 10-20 years before anything is final, and its likely they will lose.

<< The US Government IS GOING TO BE GIVING ALL VICTIMS MONEY. It will range from a few hundred thousand to $3million. This money is coming from every tax payer >>

I'd rather have the US Government give money to the victims, instead of creating some recovering program for drug abusers who got there because of their OWN choice.

<< The US Government IS GOING TO BE GIVING ALL VICTIMS MONEY. It will range from a few hundred thousand to $3million. This money is coming from every tax payer >>

Are you blind? I just told you it's not coming from tax payers. It's coming from the airlines insurance, frozen terrorist assests, and other sources.

You WANT to believe it's coming from tax payer money. Why? You don't want the 9/11 victims to get a cent and that would be a justifiable reason.

<< The airlines arent liable for the two towers, and if need be it will be proven so in court. >>

So the towers would have fallen if the planes didn't hit them? I didn't know that.

Im not saying the government shouldnt give victims money, the victim's, the ones that are, shouldnt be bitching and being greedy.

I dont support the vast majority of the programs the US does. So quit trying to change the subject.

Notice how prevalent the resentments Rall voiced are even in this thread. That being the case his work is relevant satire though certainly in poor taste.

For my part I say screw it, this is America; those widows should be able to sue for as much as they want for however long they want. If you have a problem with that take it to the judicial system.
Money has no power over honorable men and women to assuage grief. For those to whom it does have that power, they have condemned themselves. Why does anyone in the world even care how much money they get? Think about it why do you care how much money they get?

Its ALSO coming from the tax payers.

I think every victim's family regardless of what their spouse was making should get $1million, flat, tax free. Not a cent more, not a cent less. As I said before, there are many being greedy and wanting much much more than $1-3million. I have no problem with giving them some money, but some want more. Everyone should get the same amount regardless of their status, or life insurance policies.

<< Its ALSO coming from the tax payers. >>

Only if the .gov doesn't get enough to cover it. In the worst case scenario, a couple of dollars of your tax money would go to the fund.

Who are you to judge who is greedy? You have no idea what it's like to watch a loved one be killed on LIVE TV, and then to see it over and over and over. If one of your family members died on 9/11, you would be screaming bloody murder for compensation. Put yourself in the victims' shoes.

How is giving a flat rate fair? The people that made a lot of money would be shafted. The Victim's Compensation Fund is meant to reimburse wage losses and to pay for pain and suffering.

I can see paying money for loss of job and expensives dealing with the loss of a family member, but how can you put a price on pain and suffering?
This is a sticky situation, I hope they get their act together.

The money is not a matter of what they deserve or what their spouses would have made throughout the rest of their lives and add in some pain and suffering.

It's a matter of the rest of the world pitching in trying to help in whatever way possible. That money should go to the victims' families. Every red cent. I gave whatever I could and I want the money to go to them.

You know why? Because, if I was in their shoes, I'd take a good chunk of that money and do something worthwhile with it. I wouldn't blow it on a sports car or trip around the world. Maybe I'd fund saving an historic home from demolition or build a new playground for kids or buy computers for my childrens' schools. And, I guess I'm just a trusting soul and hope and believe that many of the victims' families will do the same.

If they don't, well, I hope whatever I've given will in some way at least relieve their pain.

<< Before I clicked on the link I knew it was going to be Ted Rall - and I hadn't seen that cartoon or anything.

Ted has every right to portray the Sept. 11 widows as money-grubbing opportunists. He has every right to avoid issues, and rather continue to portray Bush as 'a dummy-head'. He has every right to be a poor cartoonist and lousy human being if he so chooses.

Question - do I have the right to call him a worthless, unfunny, piece of garbage so entrenched in his own bias that he cares nothing for any other human being other than to try to further his career on taking cheap potshots at everyone he doesn't like?

Hypothetically speaking of course.
>>

I have to agree with you here, thats a pretty worthless thing for him to do.

Maybe someone should off one of his close family members and see what he finds funny then. I bet his idea of "funny" would change a bit.
As for getting what he was trying to say, I understand perfectly well, I still think he's an a-hole, because understanding it just makes it that much more offensive. It's not some misguided attempt at humor, it's a low blow to people who have had someone they love murdered.
