<edit>
This now on CNN.com:

The United Airlines terminal at San Francisco International Airport has been evacuated, The Associated Press reports. Details soon.

prolly.. they said something about bomb scare.

i swear, we need to execute anyone making bomb scares just to get them to stop.

Hey everyone: There is a bomb on these web forums! I am holding you all hostage!

Edit: In case you couldn't tell, I am kidding. The last thing I need is for some idiot FBI agent to take me seriously about a bomb existing on a virtual forum that could actually put lives in danger.... gag!

Just saw it on CNN. A guy was there with explosive residue on him. He said it was from fireworks, and walked away. Now they can't find him.

I used to do the medical insurance for all the airport security guards in the US.
You guys can't even begin to imagine how dumb they are.

So the guy had explosive residue on him and just walked away while random other people basically endure full body-cavity searches while being detained for 20-30 minutes?

His reasoning might very well be legit, but they should at least detain him until they can verify things.

Damn, here it is again. He had explosive residue on his shoes...

All I heard the first time was:

"...terminal at SF airport has been closed... explosive residue on him.... he walked away, and has disappeared..."

I agree that its ridiculous that old women and medal of honor winner get full body searches, but people with explosive residue on them are allowed to wander off. WTF?!?

what's kinda funny is THIS which is on the official website for the airport:

PLEASE NOTE: Due to new federally mandated security procedures, airlines must now screen all checked luggage as well as carry-on luggage.

guess someone missed something?

From the AP Wire:

S.F. Airport Terminal Shut Down
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Officials shut down 28 gates and cleared several thousands of passengers from a terminal at San Francisco International Airport this morning after security guards detected explosives residue on a man's shoes. ..

Had something similar to this at Lambert in St. louis about a week ago only it was a backpack I think............can't recall any details as I figured it was just another false alarm (as it was) and never even bothered to post about it. The one at Lambert took place later in the evening though......I don't think it even made much news over the wires.

Hopefully this will end up the same way, but I guess one has to wonder every time it takes place! I personally haven't encountered any problems in airports since 9/11, but, have seen several people being detained.........guess my number will come up eventually just like a lot of others........

CNN ARTICLE

SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Thousands of people were evacuated Wednesday morning from a terminal at the San Francisco International Airport due to an apparent security breach.

Possible explosives residue was found on a man's shoes as he passed through a security checkpoint, but the man "got lost in the crowd," said Mike McCarron, assistant airport director.

Authorities are searching for the man, described as a white male in his 40s. McCarron said he didn't know if the man fled from the area.

Terminal 3, home to United Airlines flights, was shut down, and passengers were told to leave the area.

the fact the guy walked away is disturbing...

If he was a legit passenger, he wouldn't of had the luxury of walking away... he would of had a plane to catch.

Also, if he just walked away, where is his luggage?

need more info...and I hope no one is hurt if this is a real threat.

i'm with yamaha on this one...

how can the securities lose this guy?
after detecting his feet with a trace of bomb residue...
wouldn't you immediately press forces on him?

man...
