I feel that paying $200 for 8.0 fun sounds better than burning close to a grand to play .4 to.8 of an additional difference... Not to mention plus the monthly subscriptions and such to keep that .4 to .8 alive...

EDIT

I feel that paying $249.99 for 8.0 fun sounds better than $399.99~$599.99 to play .4 to.8 of an additional difference... Not to mention the Xbox monthly subscriptions and the inevitable Sony PS-FREEZE/LOADINGSCREEN-FUN to keep that .4 to .8 alive...

quite right.... the facts make the difference.

exaggerate much? the wii is not $200 and neither the xbox nor ps2 are a grand.

no charger for the wii controllers? Didn't I read that they were rechargable at one time, or was I just assuming they would be?

but I just got meself a AAA n AA charger for just that sorta thing..luckily the gamecube Wavebird wasn't rechargable and lasted longer than I can remember.
I've got a slew of them ready to use on the wii too :D

There's another $20-30 for a charger and batteries. The wii's price keeps goign higher and higher. As much as I like Nintendo, I really don't see how this is going to create a mass market appeal.

Paired with PlayStation 3's RSX Reality Synthesizer graphics-processing unit, a gargantuan 550MHz, 300-million-transistor graphics chip based on Nvidia's GeForce 7800 GTX graphics technology, and you're looking at a very high-end PC.
I thought the PS3 was going to be more than just a very high-end PC.

You still have to pay for the rechargable batteries for the 360 wireless controller. And who knows how long the non-user replacable batteries in the PS3 controller will last.

See the thing is, AA batteries are the most common type of batteries. They're used in a lot of devices, so many people who realize how many AA batteries they go through have already invested the money in a set of NiMh batteries and a charger. So your $20-30 for a charger becomes a few bucks for a set of batteries.

It already HAS created mass market appeal. Haven't you seen any of the polls? Wii is blowing away the PS3 and 360 in every single poll I've seen. They know what they're doing, they proved it with the DS. The DS vs PSP is very comparable to Wii vs PS3. The PS3 has its high resolution screen, high capacity disc format, more processing power so much better graphics, it has all kinds of non-game multimedia functionality, and it has the Sony name - brand loyalty counts for a lot, and the Playstation and Playstation 2 were incredibly popular. And yet the PSP had its ass handed to it by the DS. Because the DS has mass market appeal. Brain Age? Animal Crossing? Nintendogs? They appeal to people who are NOT hardcore gamers, which is exactly what the PS3 is not able to do with its huge price tag.

The more I think about it, the more it blows my mind that you actually brought up mass market appeal. :D

Sony has said that the batteries will last something retarded like 30,000 hours and IF they ever die they'll replace them for free. And Sony has NEVER lied about anything relating to the PS3.

I do find it odd they would rate the ps3 that much higher than the 360. The absolute max it should be is .1 higher. Both systems are more or less the same IMO with each having their own slight advantages.

And I honestly think the hd-dvd should be a positive for the 360 and not a con. Having the option is very much a positive aspect (vs ps3 where you get bluray regardless of if it will be used to play movies).

Also dont know if any body noticed but they say it takes the ps3 vd player 40 secs to load a time which is very similar to the bdp1000. the toshiba retail player took about as long but the xbox 360 addon does the startup process in half that time which is one of the biggest knocks about first gen hd-dvd and bluray players. Im actually pretty surpised to see them say it takes as long as the current gen players for the ps3 to load the disc.

The big question, of course, is whether the PS3 is $100 to $200 better than the Xbox 360. From a pure gaming perspective, the short answer is: no, not today. As with any new gaming system, you're going to have to wait at least a year before you see game developers really start to get the most out of the PS3, and right now, there really isn't a game out there that's able to beat anything on the Xbox 360

As a game console it's not better than the 360, yet they rank it higher? bah all of these "reviews" are useless. We won't really know what system is "better" until more games are out, that's where the 360 has the advantage.

I'll probably get a Wii... just not right away. I'm a big Metroid fan so I see no reason to buy it right away. Would rather wait until I can get it in black.

I got the DS cus it's cheaper and has better games and im thinking im going to get a Wii for the same reason. and of course im sure as with EVERY other nintendo system that came out within the past 10 years, it will have connectivity with it's portable sibling
