Are you one of those people who also called LCDs a flop cause they cost more than CRTs?

I love the OLED on my Note 4, if I could get a decent desktop display with an OLED panel, they amount of money I would pay for it is rather large.

Not at all. But look on OLEDs history. How many years havent it been "around the corner" now?

Cost and quality are still two factors that keeps coming back as problems without a real solution.

Your Note 4 uses AMOLED and its not expected to last long while it quickly degrades in quality. Thats easy for a use and throw away device because its expected by you to buy a new. But its not something you can sell for monitors.

Some companies dont even believe in OLED anymore due to its fragile nature, high cost and fast degrade. Thats how CLED came into life.

And what does a LG OLED TV cost? The volume itself speaks for it.

How much did a Kuro cost? Top shelf tech costs more than Black Friday edge-lit LED sets, always will. Especially when only LG has the expertise to make them. Volume doesn't determine quality, McDonalds is not the best meal on the planet.

The issue is that many LED makers don't have the chops to move to a OLED era, so they would prefer to bury the tech like they did plasma. LG seems committed though, with Panasonic plasma dead they like being the only elite option a videophile gets excited about. Gives all their tech a brand halo.

OLED is here today, and it beats the pants off anything LCD based in picture quality. The future is now.

Where did you hear that OLED has problems with motion blur? It's quite the opposite.

I think he's referring to OLEDs that don't have strobing: http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/oled-motion-blur/

Once we have gaming OLEDs that actually deliver the near-zero response times of which the tech is (on paper, at least) capable, combined with strobing or BFI, motion blur should be near-negligible. Until then, the problem is not fully solved.

OLED TVs, in any case, are probably unlikely to have strobing...

I think its easy to say, until Apple uses it. The quality needed cant be bought for money (relatively).

OLED TVs so far have been a complete flop. And smartphones/watches degarde very fast in screen quality. And the only reason its used there is because its expected you buy a new device relatively fast before it degrade too much.

Complete flop? I don't understand why people that are pessimistic about OLED pull 'facts' out of nowhere - I see it a lot on other forums, too...

Anyway the 55" 1080p model now sells for $2000-2500 regularly, and it has been on sale for as low as $1500. It used to sell for $15000 back in 2013.

LG just opened a new production plant a few months ago and it is expected to reach full capacity by the end of this year, by that time they will be shipping north of 50K units per month.

I've got a Pioneer plasma currently for my TV...hopefully my next TV in several years will be of the OLED variety. Having used OLED screens on phones, LCDs just can't get near the image quality IMO. Good luck to LG.

LG will really have to slip-up for me to NOT to buy a new gen OLED next year. :)

That's a great set you've got there. The pioneer plasmas were some of the best sets ever made. I'm currently rocking a Samsung f8500 plasma which was the last of the great plasmas. Love love love it's black levels!

I was an cell phone lcd proponent until I got this Galaxy s6 and compared it side by side to my Sony z3. Wow... Any app with dark or black elements is a complete blowout in OLEDs favor.

I too see myself upgrading to OLED in about two years. I think the sweet spot for me is ~65in for about $2500.
