I played CNC Generals smoothly with a GF MX440 but at low detail. There is a few missions in China that will run slow no matter what hardware you have because of the sloppy flaws on the mission maps.

I would invest in a 120 dollar Geforce 4 (Buy Online). If you do not have the funds for a GF4 then a 80 dollar Geforce 3 well do just fine.

I found that as well running a Ti 4200... even my new 9600 has the same problem which says to me it's the game and not the card.

As Regs said....it was the second China map that was causing problems.... The problem here is that cards are expensive...I bought this10 days back for abt $100. Buying online is still not popular here.(im from Pakistan) I mite still upgrade this card to a geforce 3 or 4 but then again u sed its the game...Scrolling is also sumtimes unsmooth wen playing with 2+ AIs. Is that again the game's fault???

Which card should I get if i do decide to upgrade.?...not to expensive but should last me some time (lessay 2 years)....

Also if i decide to play online, will a 128k connection give me a smooth game???

thanx for all the help

hatim :)

CNC Generals is one big slow down.

As for your 128KB connection. Even with a fast cable connection like mine for online play it was slow. Because it not only matters what your connection is but other peoples connection playing with you. Even then, just by the network physics of their game servers makes the game slow.

Scrolling is also sumtimes unsmooth wen playing with 2+ AIs. Is that again the game's fault???

With my hardware a map with two other Allies against 3 other enemies could lag a little or considerably depending on the map. The game itself is highly flawed and stressful on any machine. So don't go thinking you will need a major upgrade for future games like it.

What card should you get if you upgrade that will last a few good years? Depends on what games you play. Dues Ex 2 and Half Life 2 that are coming I would recommend getting at least a GF4 4200 but it is too early to tell what these games will play like on today's hardware.

I'm sure you've heard this already, but don't get a GF4MX! go for the GF 4200.... not sure what flavour is the current best version. My old Asus was ok and was definatly reliable, but I know there are much better if you want to Over Clock it.

My computer lags considerably on c&c generals, with low detail also! I have a 2200+ athlon and a ti4200 8x 128mb. Is it the games fault or the hardware? Also, if I enable 4x aa or 8x af, my fps in the game does not even change, although you can tell it is working!

Something with your hardware I think. I've played the game with a crappy gf4 mx440 + p4 2.8ghz and it ran pretty damn good.

I play skirmish a lot of times with either 2 - 7 enemies/allies. It does not matter if I put high - low detail, af and aa all the way up, I get the same fps. Maybe I need to update it.....

I think I am computer limited with my 2200. I do have a crappy ecs board too!
