hi everyone,
i'm wondering something. I have recently obtained my CNA and am working on the 70-210 exam for MCP....and i'm looking for a possible job somewhere. My question lies w/ how much money should i expect for this - a person such as myself. My future is focused on a good college and computer science degree....i want a summer job mainly to help pay for college etc. i've heard anything from "oh w/ only a CNA you'll be lucky to get $15/hour" to "u've got a CNA! you could easily be making $25-$35 an hour" truthfully i have no idea..i am only 17 years old and still have senior year in high school, but i've dragged this on way to long as it is...so tell me what you think is possible/good rate i should expect from companies

im 17 and currently just over half way through my CCNA. i've also heard all different figures from different people. i think you should just approach some companies and see what their offering. at this stage your probably better to just find whichever place is going to provide the most experience. you can worry about earning the big money later on after you have some on-the-job experience under your belt.

thats generally what i've been told anyway.
 
Gorgonzola has the right attitude, at you age gaining experience is the most important factor , also don't expect that a company will necessarily use you for the certification you have recently aquired. I have seen a few folks get a cert without any professional experience and truly believe they would be administrating a network ! Sad but true..

I would guess that you should try for a desktop support position first gain experience the cert will help but the pay is really dependent on your location, experience and the company itself

He could not've been any more right. Look for a job that will provide you with the best opportunity with technology. You will not get the Network Admin job right away. You might get lucky in getting a Jr. Admin, but focus on getting a PC Tech position or even Help Desk. Start there. Learn the business aspect of the game as well as the technical part. Both will help you in the long run.

I taught A+ in high School and now teach CCNA at my local Community College. I have students that did the tech certs without a college degree and earn ~$10/hr. With the college degree (some have non-tech majors: history for one) and have gotten an extra $5/hr. College is still important. At 17 the best place to start in the networking field is pulling cable.
If you get an entry level position at $25 or more and hour drop me a line I'm ready to move.

Whoops, I thought you wanted to start a career right away with only a high school diploma. If you do want to start a career then get a degree.

Otherwise, 10-15 dollars an hour sounds about right. You'll be pulling cables and generally be what is reffered to as "grunt-boy". Could also do contract PC support with a local integrator. But hey, the pay is still good right?
