I posted this a while back, and I'm stil looking for help.

just finished building my 2nd PC after deciding to depart from my aging K6-3 system. The new one works fine except it won't save the changes made in CMOS setup.

Here's the problem, I turn it on, and while it's booting, right after detecting IDE devices, it'll say "CMOS checksum error-Defaults loaded. Warning : CPU has been changed! Please reenter CPU settings in CMOS setup..."

What the hell? It wouldn't be that much of a problem, but changing the clock every time is getting annoying. I looked at the MSI slocket, it's set correctly...the voltage is on auto.

I the mobo battery not working? It was brand-new when 2 weeks ago, here's what's in my system (which runs fine otherwise)...

P3 700E/100
MSI BX master mobo
128MB Crucial RAM
Voodoo 3 2000
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 15Gb ATA66
Vortex2 sound card
24X CD-ROM

Any help appreciated
thanks

StonerDave (nice name),

Have you tried flashing your BIOS?
A checksum error indicates that that the BIOS is corrupted!

Try DLing the latest BIOS and flashing.

Yeah, I did that soon after it first happened, and it continued to have the problem...

Oddly, it only happens when I unplug the PC from the wall. With my UPS, I guess I'll just leave it plugged in all the time. Thanks for the reply though!

Sounds like the battery, if it occurs only when you unplug it:eek:)
