CMD, IPCONFIG & TASKMGR Not Working...

I've read a few different solutions & thought I'd check here to see which solution you guys think would be the quickest, easiest & most effective.

I don't know how it happened, I thought everything was working fine. I was trying to configure a new D-Link router last night & IPCONFIG & TASKMGR failed to respond.

CTRL ALT DEL didn't work either until I reset my Admin Acct., but I still can't get into Task Mgr.

The CMD command doesn't work either. CMD, IPCONFIG & TASKMGR all say "This Program is being used by another file."

I have XP Pro w/ SP2.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your system sounds FUBAR. Either malware or just general system corruption. I would suggest getting your data off and doing a full format/reinstall. If it is malware, you'll never be able to know for sure that it's gone unless you blow everything away and start over.

This is what I was thinking too, but I wanted to check here before I do a new install.

Have you scanned for viruses yet?

I ran HJT & it didn't come back with anything that looked suspicious or dangerous.
I mean with an actual antivirus scanner. If you need one, AOL Kaspersky is the best of the free ones. If you install it,

1) first uninstall any existing antivirus so they don't clash

2) skip the optional security toolbar :camera: during installation

3) enable riskware detection :camera:

4) Update its virus definitions, reboot if it says to, and then do a full Scan My Computer.

You're probably not used to AOL having anything that's good & hassle-free, but this is the exception. It's a "lite" version of the $50 Kaspersky AntiVirus Personal 6, and the only AOL thing about it is the AOL logo in the corner.
