Depeleted Uranium is not nuclear material - but it is radioactive. It is chosen because it is extremely dense and therefore provides the most momentum for any given speed. This is why it's used within SABOT tank shells, A10 rounds and the like that need to be able to penetrate tough armour.

Cluster bombs do not leave behind mines, they may however leave behind bright yellow unexploded bomblets.

bomblet = mine. Both kill and explode when stepped on. From that same article "A U.S. Marine was killed on Sunday after stepping on an unexploded cluster bomb. In 1991, six U.S. Army combat engineers were killed while disposing of cluster bombs. "
