Clueless woman cut me off this morning...

JulesMaximus

No Lifer
I was on my motorcycle and riding in the right side of the far left lane going around 40mph when a car cut me off. This woman in a Corolla signaled and immediately started coming over into the left lane as I was coming up on her. I had to swerve pretty hard to avoid her but managed to avoid her by about a foot or so. I was going probably 40mph and I had the entire left lane plus the median to use if I needed to, she was probably going 25mph. It was funny, everything happened in slow motion and I just did it instinctively, I didn’t touch the brakes, I just pushed down on the left bar hard and the bike moved quickly and easily out of the way. I didn’t even have time to hit the horn…I just swerved around her and kept on going.

I’m sure the people behind me were thinking they were going to witness a bad accident but it was no big deal really.

Now, in perfect ATOT fashion, flame away on what I did wrong in this scenario. 😛

I'll even start you off: You were going too fast! You were going too slow! You should have been lane splitting! You shouldn't have been lane splitting! Motorcycles shouldn't be allowed on public roads! Cyclists suck! Loud pipes don't save lives! You can take my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hand! FREEDOM!!! Blah blah blah!

Only thing wrong is you did not pull out a chain/bat/etc... and hit her car with it.

Some idiot tried to come into my lane right where I was at. So I slapped her window and that seemed to get her to get back out of my lane. Good thing she did nto change lanes to quick. So not only a lazy lane changer but did not even look.

Fuck you asshole! I'm changing lanes here! Outta my way!

My favorite is when some one almost kills you, you honk your horn after emergency maneuvers and they give you the finger.

Sounds like you should have taken a moment to flip her off at least.

Why bother...I probably scared the shit out of her because she actually saw me when she was already halfway into my lane as I was taking evasive action. I started lane splitting after that anyway because traffic was slowing again and I didn't want her behind me.

A couple of questions.

1) Was she of Asian decent?

2) Were you lane splitting?

No and No. Not at that point anyway...like I said, traffic was actually moving when this happened so I wasn't lane splitting. I had the entire left lane to myself, there was a car in front of me about 3 car lengths and a car way behind me...maybe 5-6 car lengths. We were all going the same speed which was faster than traffic in the right two lanes. I was in the right side of my lane because I think you are more visible there and it gives you more room to react if someone does start coming over.

That Corolla would probably have made you suffer a lot before you died.

My Grand Cherokee would have finished you off painlessly as I went on my oblivious way, only later would I wonder about the marks on my Jeep...

Only if they actually use their mirrors to have a clue what is around.

I probably would have had a broken right leg, because that's about where her front fender would have clipped me, road rash because I was wearing jeans and not motorcycle pants, and general bruising and discomfort at the very least.

Somehow I doubt that a 3000lb Corolla or a 4500lb Jeep would have made much difference vs a 400lb motorcycle with 190lb rider.

Thanks for the warm thoughts though.

Only if they actually use their mirrors to have a clue what is around.

most people have no idea that their side mirrors can show them anything other than what is right behind them, and get all butt hurt when you suggest that the side mirrors should show what's to the side.

Props to you for being an active and aware rider! I have no problem with motorcyclists that are paying attention..

Unfortunately they dont all pay attention; Just last week I had a guy on a bike try to merge into my car because he didnt look. Then at the next stop light he proceeded to chew me out for "merging into him"..
