Club3D Radeon HD 5870X2

It seems strange for ATi to release such an expensive high end card, in this period, where even the mid range cards have issues being sold, because of the world crisis and all. But I don't know, it might be real. Why would a store make up such a thing?

When is the HD5xxx series supposed to be released anyway? I haven't followed any AMD news lately.

AMD needs money like everyone else, and putting out the highest performing card merits the highest price.

If the card performs similarly to GTX285 SLi I would think it would cost a similar amount.

Last, for people whose jobs haven't been affected by the economic downturn, things are still pretty much "business as usual" with the exception of our retirement packages are devalued. Most people buying high end gaming cards aren't likely retiring today, or living off managing their stock portfolio, so I would guess the market is still there for high end parts to some extent.

In any case, will beinteresting to see reviews.

I imagine that them producing an x2 style card doesn't cost so much money for R&D compared to a single GPU that has the same performance. I know I want to see how one of these GPU's will perform... not sure if the GTX285 will be Nivida's single GPU flagship for a while, or if they'll have another chip soon too? I just got my 4870 and already it's about to look slow. 😛

we should'nt expect any more rounds in the VGA Wars for about 3 months. April is when things really gonna get interesting.

AMD may need funds more than others actually - nRollo, guessing you know just how good the GT 300 is and its no secert to nVidia partners that it is coming early - as fast as 5xxx series comes, so will the GTX 300 and unless AMD is able to keep with this very low costs for higher end product, (basing all this on guess info posted around right) nVidia is going to have this round wrapped up at the top - and I'm more of AMD fan than nVidia myself.

You are correct, at least in the tech sector, if still have job, its the benny's that are nearly all gone, however we are still buying the high tech toys - in my case sort of comes with my job though -

Think of some of those running cross-fire or SLi using the more costly cards right now, many of them would take a really kick butt card that costs bit more, some would still buy couple of them - good amount of these people right here in these forums...

as fyi... for me, I've come to really like the GTX 285, it would take more than a performance of similarly from AMD from 5xxx and lets be honest, you nVidia boys know this too I know (if we/I do, you most certan do, and saying this is in no way breaking NDA), 5xxx AMD cards will top GTX 285 with ease, however really looking as GTX 3xxx will have little problems winning benchmarks over the AMD 5xxx series... just as now it make take a X2 part to keep in the game.
