I had my HD stop working, and had to replace it - new install of all Steam games.

That could be very bad with hundreds of hours of progress lost.

But I've heard of 'cloud saves' and who knows so I loaded one up, The Talos Principle, and woo hoo it looks like it has a save.

We'll see which games do.
 
They are great until they screw up. I've had more than one game that ONLY had cloud saves that ended up lost because of a server glitch.
 
Cloud saves are pretty reliable so long as you don't use your account on multiple devices. If you only use your account on one computer, then your saves should be fine.
 
Interesting, I just bought some games on disc from Newegg, including Wolfenstein II. When I put the disc in to install, it came up with a window to enter the Steam Key, rather than actually installing the game. I guess that means no giving the disc to someone else when I'm done playing.

You could do this, but why bother going through all that trouble? If you don't want to play the game anymore, you can just family share your account with someone and let them play the game.

I never understood why people wanted the ability to sell/trade their games. There's quite a few games in my library that I probably won't play again, but I wouldn't get more than maybe $5 for all of them combined considering you can get most games insanely cheap these days (if you're patient and know where to look). So the whole market for selling games really only appeals to people who might be region locked or those who need their parent's credit card to buy something.
