Clothing questions...I'm a dork

Hi. I'm a dork.

For most of my waking years, I've lived in jeans & a T-shirt, changing them as required.

I'm going to a wedding in New Mexico over the summer, so I've already started getting some decent clothing for that.

I need to start dressing better, on a day to day basis.

So, where does one learn how to dress one's self well?

Seriously seti920, how about looking through a few men's fashion magazines like GQ?

Get a girlfriend. She will criticize everything you wear and you will end up well dressed or looking like a clown depending on her taste.

Cant really go wrong with GAP clothes, so just walk in the store and buy whatever you can afford :)

Astonishingly good suggestions such as that are what I was fishing for. Thank you.

Any others would also be appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with jeans and a t-shirt.

For the most part, I concur. But I can do better, and in short order I'm going to have a real need to present myself better - work.

I tend to notice things are built around the shoes, and then pants.

What types of shoes do you have?

First thing you do: change out jeans for cargo pants. Same price, much better looking, more comfortable.
Second thing: get sisters, girlfriends, or just female friends to go shopping with you.

I agree w/you except the second part. If i let my girlfriend do my shopping, she'd take about three years to buy each shirt. :D

Buy some jeans that are a bit faded or so. Some twisted jeans. Different colour jeans and not the usual *washed out blue* type of colour.

Get some nice t shirts with nice prints and designs on them.

Get some nice shirts. Nothing too zaany. Keep it simple and smart. Nothing to over done that is usually what I go for but have some other stuff. Different coloured shirts.

Nice jackets. Get a few of them. Get a denim jacket, casual jacket like a suit jacket etc...

After a while you start to feel your own sense of *style* and what *you* like and don't like. Just go with that. Get FHM and look at the back sections where they have the fashion stuff. They have a section that also does 3 levels of *money*. One where you have too much money to spend £500 on shoes or a shirt or what not. Next level down and a further level. All look good and just different prices for different pockets.

Also note: If you feel good (and confident) in what you wear why change it? Go with WHAT YOU WANT.

i still wear jeans/cargo's and a variety of t-shirts/collared shirts....it all depends on how old you are, if you're 19 1/2 and have my taste (ie, if you are me) you'd shop here at my favorite clothing store. Old Navy is the best for cheap/decent looking clothing as well, just don't expect them to last more than a year or 2...

Go pick up some collared shirts from Banana Republic or something. They're nice because you can wear them for dressing up or just for whatever (e.g. I usually wear them with jeans, half buttoned up, sleeves rolled to the elbows, black shirt underneath). Then again, I don't know that I'm qualified to give fashion advice.

girls. girls will teach you the ways. but of course, each likes different styles, so they can all add to your overall "style". my style is not really my style as much as borrowed style from all the girls ive known :D

I hate khakis and polo shirts. Probably because of the dress code at my junior high. Black polo shirts weren't allowed though .. only white, green, and blue.

just go into a few major clothing stores in your area... american eagle, sctructure, gap, aeropostale... you should recognize a few things that you would want to wear. maybe some polos, or something.. dont really worry about picking the right things. you dont wanna dress like a robot. Just get items that you like from a popular mall store. Dont overspend tho. I usually just hit all the sale racks of my favorite stores, and find good bargains.
