I wish I had an SNES so I can play A Link To The Past. We had the system and game when I was a kid but I was too young too figure it out and appreciate it.

That being said, what is the closest thing to this classic, or other, Zelda games on PC?

Darksiders plays almost exactly like a 3D Zelda game and I enjoyed it a lot. Reviews half-joked that it may have crossed the line from homage to infringement -- it's that similar. Worth checking out.

I know that lots of people said that, but I just never felt it. I thought it was much more like God of War.

Yeah I played Darksiders on advice it was like Zelda and it is nothing like A Link To The Past which is the type of Zelda I am looking for.

On an overclocked sandy bridge or greater system, virtually any wii game, PS2, playstation, SNES, etc. game can be played and with the original controller and USB adapter. You just have to make sure you have a paid for copy of the original game to keep things legal.

I for love what the Wii games look like on an overclocked system. I have original N64 and PS2 controllers and recently bought an Xbox 360 wired controller... for Witcher 3.

I love the "parallel worlds" remake of link to the past... I've played through that one multiple times... it's satisfying getting the cane of byrna and magic upgrades to become a walking God by the end of the game. It's a very hard game until you figure out how to break it.. even the first dungeon really isn't THAT hard if you pick up the 4th heart container in the church. I play version 1.1

Fable is fairly close to Zelda. Older game now though. I liked the first one when I played it.

If you are looking specifically for LTTP, the closest you might get is Binding of Isaac....it is basically old Zelda style (but in rogue form), and no overworld, all dungeon.

There just really isn't anything like LTTP on PC or..any other console that I'm aware of... Oceanhorn is more like Wind Waker.

Yeah looking more for the top-down style.

Binding of Isaac looks frustrating, does it have the exploratory feel of a Zelda game?

Got me to googling around, and yea, there just isnt anything that borrows the whole thing. Just an idea here or there. LTTP is really a league of its own. Such a great game. Link Between Worlds was pretty good as well, but still not as good as LTTP.

If we're going to suggest an emulator, why not suggest something like actually playing LttP? Or all of them on their respective emulators? Everything up through the Wii is pretty well emulated these days, if your rig is beefy enough.

Super Mario RPG isn't very similar at all to LttP.

The Zelda series really stands alone for what it brings to the table.

Silver. Although a bit more isometric than Zelda, the gameplay is similar and is a very good game imo.

I suggest getting an emulator on PC/Android/iOS (jailbroken). All of these devices support gamepads and smartphones are getting close to PS2/OG Xbox emulation power.

I played a lot of N64 on Android and it is a great experience. SNES can be played on an original iPhone or G1.

Those reviewers must have been playing a completely different game than I did. Darksiders is a hack-and-slash. It has a few Zelda elements (bomb flowers, boomerang) but they play very differently.

The Binding of Isaac is basically the original Legend of Zelda on the NES, if you stripped out the overworld and only left the dungeons.

Not too many games on PC like it. On console (specifically PS3), you should check out Okami and 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Man, I found a game over a decade ago that played like a great zelda game. I know I have it somewhere on my PC but its been years. I even think I asked here once back in the 90s, early 2000s. I totally forget the name but I think it started with a "C".

Yep the NES days had many PC clones of anything that sold ok. I also remember a ZELDA clone on the PC but like you cant remember name. I do remember it was almost an exact clone, to exact. I pirated alot in those days so its possible it wasn't legit (damn you steam for making me an HONEST man with to many games to play, and Netflix too (Honorable mention goes to a modified version of XBMC, for letting me hoist the flag again)).

Ancient Ys I & II (Ys Chronicles on PC) are fairly close to Zelda. The sword use is different...you run into the monsters instead of pressing a button. But the story is more involved. And while Zelda has a more recognizable soundtrack...Ys is much more dynamic. The original version was released only a year after the original Legend of Zelda but Falcom loves to refresh their games and they do a really good job at it.

I could plug Origins and Felghana, but it's better to start with the original games.
