Closest thing to photoshop for free?

Hello Anadtech duelers:

Title says it all. Is there something like that in a place like sourceforge or something. Some time ago heard og Gimp, but thats for linux. Im running windows 7.

Bonus question. Any similar software to aftereffects?

Gimp works on Windows. You may also like Paint.NET. It isn't as powerful as Gimp, but it makes a great quick editor, and is a good total package for many people.

You can also check out GIMPshop, which is a version of GIMP with the layout changed to be more like photoshop.

On Windows I use Paint.net for 'screenshots' and some basic editing/layers images. For a bit advanced stuff, I use Gimp. I think Gimp also has plugins which you can search for and install in Gimp to get extra effects.

I used Paint.net to create a bunch of Windows Mobile themes and found it to be powerful and easy to use. Not to mention free!

As many users above me said i would go with Gimp. Easy to use and a lot of nice things for a free program
