If any small islands owned by other countries are closer than Bahamas
 
alaska to russia is about 45 miles
florida to cuba is about 95 miles
florida to bahamas is about 125 miles

edit: diomede islands which are part of alaska are about 20 miles from russia

that's right. a tiny ass bahama island is about 50 miles from miami. one of the bigger ones is 65ish from west palm beach. i chose a really crappy one to measure first.
