Closed bank account before credit payment applied

I'm switching to another bank, and I closed my account at my old bank today.

I now realized that I had made a payment on a credit card a few days ago. The card says that a payment was applied to the account May 25. However, the amount of the payment has yet to be deducted from my account.

Am I going to get in trouble? I figure I just call up my CC, tell them what happened, and hope they are nice enough to cancel the payment and let me pay from my new account.
 
Depending on when the CC processed the payment.

If already in the system; you may get a NSF from the original bank - payment rejected back to the CC and a fee/late charge added to balance.

Best to talk to the bank and have them arrange to catch the charge - deposit funds to cover the payment.
 
How far ahead of your due date are you?

I made the same mistake with an AMEX payment. There was no way to remove a payment account through their web site so for a few months I'd been manually selecting the correct account out of the two listed. Then one month I screwed up (my guess a mouse scroll changed the field & I didn't notice). The account was already closed, so the payment was rejected as an invalid account. Thankfully I tend to pay my CC bills very early so I had plenty of time to re-schedule the payment to the right account (and had their customer service delete the old account info).

I have seen no negative effects on my account, apparently they view the invalid account return much more favorable than NSF.

June 10 is due date.

The problem is I can't reschedule the payment because it's no longer pending. It's been applied to the account.

I'm on the phone with the CC right now.
 
As far as I know, bank accounts are open for quite a while after you THINK they are closed (for this very reason: people often have outstanding payments or checks). Thus, your CC bill may still go through, leaving you with a negative balance on your bank account. You should call the bank and find out what they do then. Most likely, they'll either turn down the payment and you'll have to repay the CC or they'll accept the payment and you'll have to repay the bank. Both options likely carry a significant but not massive fee.
 
I did the same thing with my Huntington checking.
My Chase credit account support said that they couldn't cancel the payment.
Huntington charged me $40 in overdraft fees.
I walked into the brick and mortar Huntington, paid the $40+the credit card payment, then closed my account.
