does anyone recall past presidential elections that were very close, or where the canidate won the popular vote, but lost the electoral vote? Or, cases where the state was won by a very close margin and all of the electoral votes went to one canidate?
thanks,

Nixon v Kennedy, 1960, was the last really close election before the previous one. there were lots of cheating allegations on the part of the Democratic party, notably LBJ's machine in texas and richard daily's machine in chicago. twice in the late 1800s the electoral victor lost the popular vote. the obssession with the popular vote is pretty dumb though, a rational voter would see how the system works and it would effect his vote versus a straight up democracy. thats why the US ia a republic.
