Close call with a idiot motorcyclist this morning

I was going 75 and in the process of changing lanes from #3 to #2 on 4 lane interstate. I checked my mirrors and it's completely clear for about 100 yards back so I signal. I check my rear view once more before making the move but for that one second I spot what looked like motorcycle lights coming up FAST! In less than 3 seconds he overtook me, passed me and was out of sight. I doubt he was doing anything less than 100. If I didn't catch him in that one second and went with the lane change that may be the last time he rode a motorcycle.

I had some idiot on a Harley bagger do a burnout in front of me this morning. I was on my Ducati and just shook my head. Real impressive pal. Must be tough to light that skinny rear tire up. 🙄

Fucking idiot was wearing shorts and a t-shirt too.

Best part was probably that lane # 4 was open for him to pass on the left right?

If you ain't rolling a 240, you ain't a real biker.

I'd be surprised if it was a 130 on his chrome wire spoke wheels. They looked like bias ply tires in fact. I had half a mind to dust him but I decided I'd rather keep him in front of me where I don't have to worry about what he's going to do next than have him behind me.

These guys make me absolutely furious. They aren't just putting themselves at risk. I had one of those idiots doing wheelies next to me on the freeway, with my kids in the car, and all I can picture is him turning into a meat flavored hamburger patty while my kids are watching - or slamming into us and making US crash. Assholes.

Twice this week I've had a motorcyclist pass in between the lanes between multiple cars. All it takes is one car moving over slightly and that guy is going to get slammed. Seems like a really bad accident waiting to happen.

There were cars in the left most lane. He had to pass on the lane to the very right, the same one I was going to change to. If I didn't see him in time and made the change there's no way he could swerve out to the other right lanes at that speed and traffic.

I have no respect for idiots like this. If I caused him to crash and kill himself due to his own recklessness I probably wouldn't be very hard on myself at all.

Are you sure it was a Harley? Sounds more like what I would expect from the kind of fucktards who ride crotch rockets.

I know a few fellows running 360's on the rear of their V-Rods. Looks cool as hell, but you have to climb onto one side of the bike and jump up and down on the foot peg while yanking on the handle bars to get it to go around a corner.

If I posted a thread every time some cager did something stupid this would be a forum dedicated to my posts.

By all means - go ahead. I hate moron drivers. I don't think the thread is meant to pick just on bikes. It just so happens that it started out with a bike so we followed suite.

My wife was driving us home a couple weeks ago when she came to a place where our lane ended. We were traveling at 50 mph (speed limit), and she turned on her turn signal at the appropriate time (when she saw the merge sign) and started trying to get over. She's a very careful driver.

This asshole in a red Taurus saw the turn signal go on so he maked sure to close right up on the bumper of the car in front of him so she can't over. I guess his assumption is that when lanes merge he doesn't have to let anyone in. She ended up having to brake hard and swing in behind him where another car made room and let her in.

Then this guy brake checks her hard. She's steamed at this point and I'm pissed too. We have our kids in the back, and this guy just put our lives in danger. I called the police 911 and grabbed his license plate (I don't give a shit that you have 'VETERAN' stamped across it in big letters). Now, my wife is one of those people you don't fuck with like that. When he turned she followed him into his sub. He stopped at his mailbox and when he realized she was waiting for him he just sat there. I was on the phone to the cops the whole time. I realized he got scared and didn't want us to know where he lived, so I told her to do a quick loop around.

Sure enough, as we came back around the subdivision loop he was opening his garage door and pulling in. We got the address as we drove up and I gave it to the police. He realized now we were sitting at the end of the driveway - so he starts coming toward us in our minivan. I rolled down the window held out the phone (he was still 30 feet away) and yelled "I'm talking to the police on 911 right now. Anything you want to add?" He turned around and went back into his house.

Fucking assholes.

Dashcams. Get one.

car or bike, it always scares the crap out of me when they have the 50+ MPH closing rate and you are moving from one lane to another, etc.
We were coming back from a trip with the truck and trailer, and a crotch rocket passed me with loud exhaust rapped out. I had the benefit of about a second's warning, but my wife did not. She jumped, dogs barked, etc.

I don't think people realize how little people pay attention to the vehicles around them and a bike just makes it worse. Even my bright red Corvette has been cut off/merged into a dozen times in the last few weeks when driving responsibly. Must be an SUV thing because they plain just don't see me.

Stopped at a traffic light on a four lane, 55mph road. I'm in the left lane and 7 bikes are in the right. The light changes and I start forward on my merry way. The bikers are all yakking. Suddenly the two in the front of the pack realize the light has changed and take off at a good clip. The pass me on the right and immediately move into my lane where they both put on the brakes, still talking to each other and proceed to swerve between the left lane and the right lane while slowing down. I had to brake very hard and very quickly to avoid hitting them from behind. They slow down to about 10mph. still talking and then looking back to see where the rest of the group is. The rest had accelerated from the light at a normal pace once they too realized the light had changed and had remained in the right lane and were just catching up. The two in front of us moved back into the right lane at the lead of the group.

My wife was more flabbergasted than I was.

I used to ride many moons ago. As a rider, there is a ton to be aware of but you can be your own worst enemy too. The two that swerved in front of us are probably going to be statistics before the riding season is over.

something very similar happened to me today. Traffic going steadily around 40mph. Heavy traffic, pretty much bumper to bumper. My exit was coming up so I decide to switch from middle to right lane. Check side and rear mirrors, clear. Check front. And just I was about to signal to switch lanes, biker doing at least 60 splitting lanes, zooms past me. Scared the crap outta me. Afterward I was so angry that I could potentially have killed someone today due to no fault of my own, and would have turned my life upside down. 😡

Despite all this, somehow, the injury rate for motorcycles riders is around 1%(as of 2013), death rate is way less. Death rate is, not surprisingly, higher for bikes vs cars but the injury rate is statistically about the same. So take heart in the fact that, going by the numbers, motorcycle riders probably aren't any more, or less, dangerous and reckless than their four wheeled counterparts. More visible and obvious? Yes.
Given the larger number of miles covered by cars vs motorcycles I'd still call them more dangerous, but the majority of that danger is from four(or more) wheeled vehicles and the lack of a safety cage around the rider.

None of this makes one feel any better when they nearly hit a motorcycle with a rider being dumb, but it's something. It's like when flying and you hit some rough air, statistically it's still safer than driving. 🙂

Yeah...bike going too fast, or car not looking at their surroundings while lane changing. Lane changing for no particular reason. Left lane blocked by cars not passing. Lane splitting. Blah blah blah...

Videos don't lie. Until one is seen, it's all up to interpretation about whatever situation is being described. It's never the story teller's fault, is it?

Agreed. If I had a dollar for every asshole in a car I saw texting I'd be a millionaire. Those fuckers are way more dangerous than someone speeding on a bike. At least the motorcyclist will only kill himself.

Once I had a motorcyclist blow my doors off on the freeway, riding a wheelie, in the rain. I assume that the guy was just diagnosed with terminal cancer, because that's the only way that I can understand that magnitude of disregard for his own life.
