Close call at work today

This morning we were working with some packaing equipment (incline conveyor to scale) and trying to get it running. There are three total pieces of equipment and only two were running properly. Knowing that the main power connects can be touchy I unplugged the equipment and began plugging it back in. While plugging in the last piece, I received the fireworks show and shock of a lifetime. Instantly the sparks flew as I listened to the electricity pop. I could see that everyone in the packaging end of the plant was looking directly at me blinded by the flashes. Finally I was able to release the plug when I noticed that both plugs (wall and equipment), the wall itself, and my hand were black. For the first couple of minutes I was in shock and felt nothing, but that all caught up with me only a few minutes later.

Definitely got the wake up call I needed for the long day ahead of me.

damn... how is your hand?
Got a few bruises on my arm and some burns on my thumb/hand.

you should be wearing gloves next time you do things like that &_&

How often do you really see someone wear gloves to plug in a piece of 120 equipment?

It's always fun trying to explain to the plant manager why a line could not start up on time. Just hope I didn't leave any black soot marks on his desk.

SO what happened?

Ultimately a sh!tty wiring job led to short which made a mess when I plugged it in. Several of the contacts were loose and touched when I plugged it in.
