Something many have been waiting for. You'll have to extract the "chips" from your OEM tanks and install in the clones. A high note is since they don't contain a new chip, they eventually shouldn't cost much more than the current clone tanks.

My contact says it won't be too long before they break the chip too.

Here's a link to an image of the chip-swapping process

Jeez that's a lot to go through to use non OEM inks in Canon printers. Glad I got the last of the chipless printers that they put out in the form of an IP5000.

Ink-Refills has had them listed for $9 since June, but they were expensive. In addition, you could have purchased them on Ebay if you didn't mind dealing with European sellers. Of course, more resellers can only help reduce the price per cartridge. For instance, I see that Abcink is advertising them for under $5 each with an ETA of late August. Process is still a hassle though.

i guess it depends on how fragile the chip and how flush it needs to be on the cartridge, but it doesnt look too bad.

See the Swiftink AT Special thread in the HOT DEALS section - says right there they will be selling the 8 series tanks for their usual $3.95 price.

they mention how close the chipped clone tanks prices were gonna be relative to the unchipped ones? i am looking for a new printer and if the chipped clones are gonna be under maybe 5 or 6 bucks a cart i was just gonna get like a 4200 or a mp500.
