tried emailing clonecd support but got no answer:
could you tell me:

i copied a couple of expensive cds i have with clone cd as backups but if i remove clonecd from my system they wont run - do i always need it installed to be able to run any cd created with it or is there a way to make a copy [protected cds] without having to keep cloncd on the system?

yes they will run with clone cd installed; this is how i learned it; i had uninstallted clonecd and they wouldnt run so i thought i had made a duff copy but when i reinstalled the app [to make another copy] i noticed they both ran fine.
and no i havent used the option to install to vrtual drive or anything like that to run off hdd

hunh? what does that mean?
sorry i have not used this software before so i didnt understand what that means

i have seen a .cue file once before that burned into a working disc but i didnt make it...or the file that tells nero etc how to burn it properly...

OK so when you burn it TO A DISC the program does not work. OR when you ripit you can't burn it with out clone.

sequence:
installed clonecd
burned 2 discs
installed the software from my burned copies rather than originals to check --> installed okay.
apps need dic in drive to run --> both ran fine with the burned cds
uninstalled clonecd: neither app runs "cannot find cd...reinsert and press ok" problems

i even uninstalled and reinstalled using the original discs to see if that was the problem but no joy.
reinstalled clonecd and the burnies work properly again!

btw the originals work fine throughout...
i know better [just!] than to assume i can burn with clonecd unistalled! wonderrign if i can burn in such a way that i dont need it continously instaled either...

Doesn't CloneCD install by default, a feature for "Hide CDR media", in their I/O driver stack? Perhaps that's the issue. If so, then I suggest installing DaemonTools instead, on the machine, if you don't want to have CloneCD installed. I believe that software supports similar features.
