I know it sounds dumb but I am overclocking my Emachines 3120 (sempron 3100+ 1.8) with clockgen (no bios options) and I can only get up to 2054Mhz, 228 FSB stable. If I go any higher, it becomes crashy.

Why can't I go any higher? Do I need to lock my memory clock? What other programs can do that?

ClockGen Does what it is Designed to do and the Issue are not with Clock Gen..

Three Things that Come to Mind...

1,) It is An E-Machine. It is designed for E-mail, word processing, and light gaming.

2,) The MotherBoard BIOS is the Issue... There is alot to overclocking that you don't understand, and if you can't tweak...You are screwed...You got a little over 10% ... that is the best you can expect with what you have.

3,) Refer to Item 1 (You get what You pay for.)

It's risky but can anyone recommend a different mobo bios to flash on my FIC K8MC51G. There isn't on their website.

1. No memory divider = RAM limiting overclock
2. No Vcore adjustment = voltage limiting overclock
3. eMachines blows. Get a decent computer.

I'm surprised your RAM even gets to 228mhz. To overclock, you'll pretty much just need a new mobo.

be happy u got anything at all. overclocking increases heat and power usage, its nonlinear from what i've read. not sure your hsf or psu will take the abuse, your systemw ill crash when you need it most or die,and then u'll be even poorer. its not worth the tiny boost. emachine is emachine, u aren't going to shine that turd.

There isn't a program that will adjust your memory frequency. If you want a better PC, get a job and save up.

I'm gonna agree with the people here. Be happy you got the OC you did and leave it alone. I'm not gonna bash on your choice of computer, I totally understand only being able to afford so much. In fact, that's exactly why I say leave it alone. If you can't afford a new MB (and theres no way I'd recommend overclocking that thing more even if you could afford it) then what are you going to do when you fry the whole thing by trying to push it too far? I'd imagine you're playing games and trying to get more reasonable fps with it but it's not worth the risk imo.

thanks, i am just going to leave it alone. I have a question, because of this small overclock, does it shorten the lifespan of my computer?

Yes, by my calculations your computer will die sometime on the morning of the 27th January 2007 in it's sleep mode.

Sorry.

Thanks, that quote makes me look even more of a cruel git than normal

No, that sort of overclock will make next to no difference to your computer's lifespan.

i have a computer that is 7 years old, overclocked and runnnig with all voltages +20 percent from default. actually my case is caked with dust too. i'm sure temps are above optimal. no issues here. i've only had one HD corrupt due to PCI divider at 37 or 38. i just reformatted and everything was ok.
