Clock range on ATI Overdrive on 4850 seems low

I'm thinking about OCing my 4850 since it runs cool and I can't lower its fan speed. However, the GPU Clock slider in Overdrive goes from 500 to 675. Is this normal? The card came at the stock GPU clock of 625MHz, so I can't see why the slider goes down to 500 (it normally goes down to 500 when throttling to save power, but I figured Overdrive would take this into account). Is there any way to fix the range of the slider so that it starts at 625 and goes past 675 at the high end, or is it like this for everyone that has a 4850?

On the other hand, my VRAM clock slider seems fine - it starts at the stock 993 and goes up to 1050.

Try reinstalling your driver. Something is wrong there, mine goes up to 700/1200.

This is with 8.10. Before this, I was using 8.9, then 8.10 RC2, and at some point in between I was using the original hotfix driver that came out when the 48xxs were first released. I used driversweeper when changing driver versions, and my slider's been like this with every driver I tried.

Just use Riva Tuner 2.11 and forget about the stupid ATI overdrive.

Mine goes up to 750. It seems it is different from card to card.

I think it has to do with the card's BIOS. The OEM can lock the range of clocks that ATI Overdrive allows the user to select.

I just got Riva Tuner for my NVidia card and it is really great. I'm still figuring it out, but I would definitely recommend it. I've never had much luck with the drivers' built-in OC'ing features.

Cool, thanks. I gave Riva Tuner a try, and it seems to work pretty well. I guess my card isn't as overclockable as I'd hoped - 700/1100 made me crash after a few minutes of Crysis. I'll mess around with the clocks a bit more when I have more time.

By the way, is there some way to let the card throttle down when overclocked but idle (like with PowerPlay)?

Ok, use this guide here for lower power consumption through Riva Tuner, in idle mode:

And this one to increase your fan speed, to make room for a higher overclock:

I think that too. Just don't know if they have a good idea about the chip oc potential or not. Overdrive detects my card at 740 core for example.
