clock radio has a bunch of static, except when I move my hand close to it.

Everytime my goes off in the morning there is a bunch of static coming through the radio. When I go to turn the alarm off, the static goes away.

The antenna is coiled around the power wire. Would it be better if it wasn't coiled around the power wire?

Is it possible to enhance the antenna inside this thing?

you are acting as an antenna.

try adjusting the antenna position.

After the second or third time you noticed the static, why didn't you just try moving the antenna to see if it helped?

The antenna is coiled around the power wire inside the unit and no part of the antenna is external.

I decided to uncoil the antenna (the manufacturer wrapped it around the power wire like 20-30 times) and made the antenna external. It looks a little odd with a wire hanging out of it now, but the static seems to have disappeared.

There is a magnetic field around all power cables. By wrapping the aerial around the power cable you are causing induction in the aerial. This is the worst thing you can do. Unwrap the aerial and perhaps try different angles.

I believe that's actually the way it's supposed to be. Both of the clock radios in our house have an antenna wire hanging out the back...never had any issues with static.

Maybe the manufacturer just forgot to do it properly.
