Ever notice sometimes going to work is just like going back to high school part II?

Everybody likes to talk about everybody else and nobody minds their own business. I keep to myself at work and I do not want to be involved in any discussion about my co-employees. I think it's childish and unprofessional. Though there is always someone who wants to either start rumors or "bust" on you to make themselves feel better.

It seems like the "quiet" ones are always a target. If you're not in a "Clique" at work you're always the one to get singled out and abused.

How do you face this problem at the work place? Do you laugh at it and move on? Complain about it to your supervisor or human resource representative? Or do you simply rise above it?

Too bad for all of us, but life is nothing but a continuation of high school....it never changes, no matter how old you get, where you work, or how cool the people are

no, i keep quiet and have never had anyone "bust" on me. I mean i'm sociable enough, but i don't partake in rumors or petty office politics. but then every time someone starts to give me a hard time i give them double back. all in good fun of course.

I believe thats "quiet" not "quite" unless there is a definition for "quite" that I'm not aware of. Anyway, I could see it happening, but I havn't noticed it here.

There is, but it is the wrong word to use in my context.

Social interaction is an important part of almost any career. It's one thing to refrain from talking about people behind their backs, but abstaining from social situations in general is not a good idea.

So what exactly are they saying about you? Or have you not even bothered to ask?

I'd confront the perps if I were in your situation.

Petty crap really. I'm one of the "younger" recruits in my company. So basically I'm hit with every stereotype in the book. Every time I try to make friends with a girl they think I'm trying to date them. They also think I do nothing but drink, party, and crash every week. I balance this job while going to school.

I talked to my boss about some of this crap and he seemed cool about it. My boss told me that people talk about him too. People say that he has his head so far up the directors ass was the only reason why he got promoted.

I don't know. Maybe I just haven't been going out as much as I use too to get my mind off things like this.

Their's a popular phrase for this. Easier said than done. Do you really not care what others say about you? Is it not normal to feel a bit uncomfortable in these situations?

There was a women who got fired two weeks ago were I work that got labeled "trailer trash". Would you like to be called trailer trash in your face?

actually this is one of the ways to avoid cliques/gossipers.

i know since i can be gossipy, and it's only with other women in the office.

the drama almost always starts with the women also, fighting with other women, unless it's a guy that's getting shot down by the women in the office. then a whole new round of gossip starts up.

and if you're quiet, you're still singled out. it's a no win situation
