This poll was taken before Hillary took a beating in the latest debate.

Since then she has been in a tail spin.

The attack Hillary thing is going to get worse, the question is will her responses get better or will she still whine and complain that everyone is ganging up on her or accuse the moderator asking bad questions.

This is typical example of being blinded by own ideology. Just because Republicans are obsessed with illegal bashing (and alienating Latino vote in the process), they assume it's also a slam dunk in the Democrat primary and in general election. Republicans had 6 years to do something about illegal immigration, instead they dumped it on the states to deal with, and now they aren't happy about how the states are dealing with it. The states want to know who lives there and who drives on the roads. It's the federal government's job to protect the border and handle immigration.

Plus NYC was a "sanctuary city" under Rudy, so it's a total loser for him in the general election and the primary. So it's a wash for Clinton, loser for Rudy.

If it comes down to Giuilani vs Clinton, the skeletons in the closet could get interesting. They both have plenty, that's for sure...

What are Ms Clinton's skeletons?

What did the Republicans dig up about her after years of investigation during Mr Clinton's administration?

This question probably deserves it own thread.

Most of Clinton's skeletons are out of the closet, that's the problem for Giuliani. Hillary has been scrutinized for 15 years in nationwide media, while Giuliani is like Hiroshima, kept untouched for maximum damage once Hillary campaign starts dropping bombs on his image. Most people may not know that Rudy is keeping an accused pedophile priest on his payroll, for example.

Clinton would cream Giuliani, too bad we can't vote for Bill again. I hope the Democratic party can come up with someone besides Hillary. If she wins we can rename the White House the Waffle House.

Poor Profjohn, I know how badly you're looking for holes in Hillary's armor. Hillary isn't my favorite candidate on the Democratic side, but not only is she the inevitable Democratic nominee, she's the inevitable general election winner too. None of the Republican candidates have a prayer..you can quote me on that right now.

People don't seem to understand what she's trying to do right now, and they don't seem to see how effective its been. All Hillary is doing is running out the clock. She doesn't want to make headlines, make bold statements, or take strong positions on contentious issues. She doesn't have to do any of these things because she's already crushing her opponents. Once the general election rolls around she will have carefully crafted positions on all these issues. In fact, I wouldn't doubt that she probably already has positions on these issues, but she doesn't want to show her hand and right now she doesn't have to. Why give people things to attack when you don't need to?

Rasmussen's latest figures actually show Giuliani up on Clinton by a point or two, and Thompson within 2 points as well. She was ahead by nearly double digits not that long ago.

On a side note, Walter Mondale has endorsed Hillary, that is what I call the kiss of death

No, Hillary has never been up by double digits on those candidates that I'm aware of. That was one of the primary arguments against Hillary's candidacy awhile back... that Obama and Edwards crushed the republicans in prospective polls, and she was merely beating them. These polls are all meaningless though, because the Republicans are all campaigning against Hillary, and she is currently campaigning against no one.

As soon as the general election cycle starts she will turn around and slap them down... hard.

Hillary should campaign against Thompson. Then GOP will nominate him, because they hate Hillary, and then Hillary can beat him silly.

Look at Rasmussen's historical data. She was up by nearly 8 points on Rudy and nearly 12 points on Thompson not all that long ago.

We'll see.

...if the election were held today and each forgot to campaign.

As much as I'm hoping for a democratic win, I think 2004 (and '00) should have taught us to never underestimate the Republican machine.

Rasmussen disagrees with you.

Tuesday night?s debate was not Hillary Clinton?s finest moment of the campaign season, but there has been little or no immediate damage to her standing in the national polls. In fact, if anything, support for Clinton has ticked up a bit since she stumbled on an answer to questions about drivers licenses for illegal aliens.

I wasn't talking about any so-called fallout from her bomb at the debate.

I was talking about her position against Guiliani and Thompson. See here.

Rudy is up by 2, Fred down by 2. Very competitive indeed.

Republicans should be doing better seeing how they've been bashing Hillary for months, and she has yet to fire her first shot.
Once the primaries are done, Hillary will take the Republican nominee down a notch, permanently.

If I was a Hillary supporter or a Democrat I would be at least a little worried by her debate performance.

When her supporters are saying things like ?they should shot the moderator? that is not a good sign.

And just think, if her performance is this bad when facing people who agree with her on 90% of the issues what will happen when she faces someone who disagrees with her on nearly everything.

I have said before that Hillary is her worse enemy and her performance at the debate will certainly fill a few anti-Hillary commercials between now and primary day.

Totally overblown. George W. Bush would love to have a debate performance like Hillary. If anything, lowering expectations now helps her in the long run, because any election is going to get down and dirty at some point.
Plus Republicans are looking at it through their own illegal bashing colored lenses. This is politics of Pete Wilson that brought decline of GOP in California, and now they are taking it nationwide.
Plus Hillary bashers need to see their doctors about premature ejaculation. Throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her now will make these attacks less effective during the general campaign, because by then it will be "same old" stuff.

Ummm it was about more than the illegal question.

The whole thing points out how Hillary refused to stand firm on anything and how she will say one thing to one group and another to someone else.

Her ?private? answer about Social Security is a perfect example of that.

I know being firmly stuck on stupid is considered a virtue in the GOP. Things are a bit more nuanced in the real world.

On the Republican side, I'm still thinking Mike Huckabee could get the nomination. On the Democratic side, I'm hoping Obama gets it. I think the media is really setting up Clinton to fall, and fall hard, Dean scream style.

I'm actually quite surprised to see Obama do so well in the national head to head match ups. He's within a couple points of Clinton vs. Giuliani and is ahead of Clinton vs. Thompson.
