well
i guess SAH wasnt the best example, and i obviously didnt have the best hardware @ the time. so i guess the drop off in WU times isnt as dramatic as i had thought.
i didnt realize celly's peformed that well @ seti back then.

i know they are completely different projects. i was just trying to use SAH as a benchmark to show how far hardware has came in 4 short years.
although im not saying anything that no one here already doesnt know. im very good @ stating the obvious.

😀

Your quite right though that hardware has come along way in 4yrs😀

Nah, when I had dial-up I downloaded a 80mb game. 6Mb isnt that big even for a dial-up.
It is when you pay for it per min😛
Yea it probably takes 15min. with prices like 2 cents per minute that would be too expensive since it takes at least 4 weeks to process one.
lol ,ok,fair point😛 ,but we don't have cents here in the UK 😉 ,pay/min dialup is about 1-2p/min which is a tad more .
Btw with 56k dialup hitting an optimium of 5.5K/s (<not bits) I make that about 18 mins for 6Mb🙂

Its not pounds!:Q the pound sign is this> £
p=pence! 😉

Broadband starts from about £18/mth for 150k ,£23/mth 512k .Most offer 512-600k for about £23-28/mth

Ok😉😀

I just noticed that the user stats now include rankings.

My system is ranked 1964 out of 60287. Yay. 😀

Still no group functionality, can't be too far away.

My progress may be slowed for a while as I picked up C&C Generals: Zero Hour, and may not have many cycles to spare while I'm playing it. 🙂

Just installed it. Now I need to see how well it runs w/ and w/o running sob. I hope hyperthreading lets me run both of them. Anyone here try running it with sob yet?

Anyone noticed that when shutting the client down, it seems to restart itself automatically?

I was trying to do some encoding on the weekend and CP kept restarting and trying to steal processing power (the Seti client is much more willing to give up cycles). My only option was to uninstall it fully and for the timebeing it can stay uninstalled until such time a more polished client appears.

Yeah someone mentioned that somewhere around here ,& there is a way of stopping it restart ,something to do with services....pitty I can't remember where I saw that!😱

if you reinstall and choose no service install, you will have no problems.
i didnt care for the service.
if you repair instead of reinstall you can change it that way too.
then when youre encoding, burning a cd or whatever, you can exit out and it will stay away til you start it again.

Heres my stats after 1 day.

Some was while running sob, encoding video etc. Hope my speed picks up. trying not to use my computer to figure out how fast it is running this program.

Ahh... running as a service that must be it!

I recieved an email a few days back from CP thanking me for completing my first run (it took about 5 days as the model was invalid hence my machine didn't need to process the whole thing). But for the time being at least I've decided to move back for Seti as I want to hit 200 WUs, I've currently only got 119 🙁

Once I hit 200 I may run another model through...

Today my computer is ranked 2,003 out of 61,328. 🙂

I'm taking quite a hit from my Generals playing. Alternately, people with better systems than mine who started later than me may be passing me up.

According to the overall statistics there are 22,326 active machines on the project atm. That's 39,002 machines that were running the model but stopped for some reason (people pissed off from their experience running it as a service?)...

I've reached 2 petacycles in about 10 days. That sounds like a lot, but I have no intuitive sense of how big a peta-anything is. 😛
