US Owes World 40 Trillion Dollars for Trashing Climate
If you acknowledge, as the UN does, that there’s a carbon budget—an amount of greenhouse gas pollution the world can collectively churn out before we land in dangerous warming territory, currently figured at a 2˚C threshold—then it follows that nations that have overstepped theirs should pay back those who haven’t...

$10 trillion that polluting industrial nations owe climate creditor nations like India, China, and Nigeria who have stayed under their carbon budgets.

...by figuring that climate debt, it helps us recognize the historic inequity and scale of the crisis.

“The rest of the world is crying out for help," Mathews said, "and the developed world is digging in its heels, and refusing to pay its debts.”
So climate change is really about wealth transfer from the first world to the third world.

The science is settled. All the political scientists agree.

You need to open your wallet and let the politicians redistribute your wealth...

Time to check that first world privilege and open your wallet!

Oh, also check that Canadian Privilege. At least until you pay your $400 billion climate debt ...

I always find it interesting that so many people try and argue that proposed responses to climate change are evidence that climate change isn't real.

I always find it odd that so many try to argue that proposed government action implies that it is real/decided/confirmed.

So how much do China and India owe? Oh wait, silly me. The US is the only country in the history of the world that has trashed the planet.

WAH! I'm not allowed to pollute without consequences,.. WAH!!

This has nothing to do with being shaken down by those filthy 3rd worlders - this is being insulted for having to pay the piper.

You expect a pound of flesh from other people - well, don't Herp-A-Derp when your ticket is up.

If carbon credits mattered, which they don't. Wait until the world gets the bill for our tech and medical advancements, will make that look like pocket change.

Wait, you think we'd actually consider paying? That's hilarious! :awe:

This is one of the reasons why many have issues with climate change. It's not about fixing it or reducing how much we pollute. The transfer of wealth won't do anything to help those poor countries and will only hurt the nations paying.

and we will still be trashing the climate.

I've never seen anyone argue that. Can you provide am example?

You might have mistaken that for the voluminous, overwhelming scientific evidence that is the most commonly cited reason.

Well... When a researcher on the topic suggests this sort of solution... I question the science or more likely the motivation of the researcher.

Maybe he was just trying to get people to look at impact to climate from a different angle. Not sure his idea solves the issue he is researching. Unless he isn't actually a climate scientist, but a economics professor or something like that.

It was 2 simple questions. Why won't you answer?

If you want to bitterly cling to your first world privilege and deny your climate debt, it doesn't matter to me.

You're welcome to answer your own questions.

Go ahead. You know you want too...

If this doesn't cement the fact that it's all about wealth redistribution and nothing about fixing the problem, then I don't know what will.

And only 40 trillion? Why not 40 gazillion jillion?

I personally like how china, who is the one nation to release more CO2 than the US, gamed the system enough to make it look like they should be owed.

Maybe you could just dip your toilet brush in lye and shove it up your ass to insure a constant state of feeling your getting burned by something. You poor fucking CBDs must have nerves that grow out of your wallets directly to the pain centers of your brains. Must be great to live in a permanent state of infantile need. Man up, you poor pathetic weaklings or somebody will throw sand in your faces. We owe 40 trillion, "Oh my fucking god, let me collapse and die in the corner. Let me give you my blood."
