People Who Deny Reality
By Charles Shahar Posted: 11.06.2006

snipped for size

Emotional ego defenses are subtler than physical defenses. These include:
(1) Repression: Pushing back emotions that are unacceptable to your ego. Blocking or denial of emotions such as anger, fear, frustration or dislike; or even love and compassion.
(2) Reaction-Formation: Reacting in ways opposite to what you really feel. For instance, you may feel resentment toward your child, but smother them with affection instead.
(3) Projection: Attributing unacceptable feelings to others, when in fact you feel these yourself.
(4) Displacement: Reacting in a certain way to someone, usually a safe target, when in fact you have such feelings about someone else.
(5) Regression: Experiencing feelings of an earlier developmental stage, and not responding to situations in an adult and responsible way.

Intellectual defenses are subtler yet.

(1) Mental Blocking: Refusing to consider certain thoughts, including blocking memories of past experiences.
(2) Minimization: Rationalizing away the source of the threat by minimizing its effects on you.
(3) Faulty Attribution: Attributing a certain cause to your distress that is unassociated with your feelings.
(4) Disassociation: Talking about something as if it didn't apply to you. Usually this can be noticed when a person does not “own” what they say by not including themselves in the description, and speaking about it in a more abstract way.

This is why I Deny the existence of Leprechauns. The thought that I'm too lazy to find the pot of Gold(have you seen the Price of Gold recently? 😱) at the end of the rainbow makes my Life unbearable. Gotta go back to the Leprechaun Denial Webring to cheer myself up. BRB.

The EPA put chimicals in Gasoline as addatives and it ended up polluting the water. The EPA is full of baloney. What good does it do to make people get their cars inspected ? Answer is none. It is a complete waste of money and resources. At least it makes the Mechanics rich.

Data to back up this assertion?

hai guysa I think dis global warm is all a front for commies who want to take over my cable tv I wen outside t2day and it was kinda chill.

Does anyone even remember Catastrophic Global Warmists claiming that the Arctic would be ice free in 2013?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7139797.stm

Does anyone remember the now head of the NSIDC Mark Serreze claiming that Arctic ice was in a "DEATH SPIRAL" ? Does anyone else remember those disaster claims?

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2745499020080827?sp=true

Now we have proof that Arctic ice extent and area are at it's highest level in 8 years, back to average levels. Why would you claim that anyone that's a bit skeptical of some of these far fetched disaster claims is a conspiracy theorist or crazy ?

The reason they forget is because something new comes out that still supports their side so they forget the old shit even if it never happened. Oh the prediction is wrong, BUT THIS ONE IS RIGHT WE SWEAR!

Yes, it's all a huge conspiracy. It's not like anything is known about environmental chemistry or what causes smog or anything like that.
/throws environmental chemistry book in the closet

It's not a matter of forgetting, just the realization that not everything Predicted will happen. Predicting things are tricky and rarely are they stated as absolute predictions, but stated with a Probability. My recollections of 2013 are rather sketchy though, did a lot of Pot that Year.

You do know that you're a Nutter and that the IPCC Data has not been discredited?

Take a look at this if you would.

again Monovillage, you miss the point entirely

Arctic sea ice and land ice are two different things, as are the reasons for changes in the levels of both

you - on the simple level - see that the sea ice is increasing, and, mistakenly, conclude that is somehow proof of a global warming hoax - much like the people saying 'hey - look at all the snow in the DC/VA area this winter - global warming my ass!'

I agree with you that the 'doom n gloom' folks are generally full of BS - on both sides of the political isle - but the way the anti GW crowd clings to every little story that gets put on a blog, a local newspaper editorial, or just plain old bad reporting - is beyond sad.

..and then?

.....and then ? You may be happy that the EPA is poised to regulate GHG based on faulty and questionable science that will cost this country trillions of dollars, but i'm not. I feel that they should have to prove that whatever regulations they put into place are warranted, needed and cost effective.

No you guys straight forget about it because it doesn't suit your talking points. In fact the only reason you even believe in AGW is because of the screwed up early predictions that predicted death and destruction in 10 years if we didn't do something RIGHT NOW! OMFG NO ICE IT WILL BE SO MUCH HOTTER THE OCEAN LEVEL WILL RAISE 30 FEET OMFGZ!!! That's why you fell for it in the first place, but hey it's ok they fucked up so they come out with another prediction with some more "data" and suddenly now that's the gospel. You guys are funny.

Nah, that's your MO. Deniers have been working the angles since the beginning, changing the angles when they no longer made sense, then re-using the previously abandoned angles when they made sense again. No Warming-Not Manmade-Too Expensive/Cost Ineffective to address-No Warming, for eg.

Meanwhile, Change has been happening, some even faster than Predicted. Go ahead and Deny, but be aware that increasingly Denial just leaves you looking stupid. The IPCC and the Scientists involved are fully aware that their Predictions are Iffy in many aspects and as such their Official Reports emphasize Probabilities and other conditional factors. What is undeniable is that Warming is happening, that it is happening at an unprecedented Rate since the Earth's Climate stabilized long before our existence, and that the only major change to the system has been the extraordinary growth in GHG Emissions since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. That is the inconvenient truth of it all that Deniers refuse to accept.

Deal with it now while it is relatively Cheap or deal with it later when it becomes excessively Expensive and is disrupting the Economy. That's the choice that needs to be made and fortunately for all, including the Deniers, it is being dealt with.

It's amazing how much like religion this all is. Even after multiple failed end of the world predictions, the followers STILL blindly follow the doomsayers (preachers). And when they question, they're told they're too stupid to understand, and to just believe.

But this thread is just too funny. Like a religionist, they have a bible (the skewed data that has been destroyed) and ALL "studies" released are based on that same fabricated and skewed data. Yet, with every new release, the followers claim it's something new. When questioned, they act like religionists "I believe the bible because the bible says to believe it."

Face it. MMGW is a religion. It has believers, heretics, sin, original sin, an Edan, redemption, preachers and end of the world predictions. Most of all, it has the false logic backing of "it's better to believe and be wrong than to not believe and be wrong."

Show me anyone who has predicted 2010 right so far, they've been at it for over a decade now they should have some solid predictions for 2010 right? They don't, things from early 2000s don't line up with what is going on in the world today. I haven't always been so adamant about this being bullshit until recently.

Now now, Amused, read my post. You just have a bad case of denial. You're like a trapped mental patient about to get the net and screaming "You're all crazy!".

They don't Predict Years. That seems to be your problem and the problem of most Deniers. You don't want the Science, you want a TV Guide to base your Life around. It doesn't work that way.

How about the last decade...does that help you?
