I am in over my head but am trying to learn by doing.
Just purchased a new server running 2003. I have two workstations (XP), DSL line and the server on a switch. Everyone can get on the internet but my workstations can't connect to the server. I have the computers both in the AD and me the user. We are all in the same workgroup. I think it is something that I haven't done on the workstaions. Before I call the tech guys to come out is there anything I might check?

You are either going to have to do some serious reading or else bring in somebody with experience. I'm sure we can walk you through your current problem. But if somebody with experience isn't helping with the design, installation, and maintenance, then you'll be spending a lot of time on the Help Forums, probably to the detriment to your REAL job.

If you are seeing "Workgroup" on the workstations, then you didn't join the client PCs to the Domain. That will make access management and account management a LOT tougher than it needs to be.

if your trying to join the domain. On your two computers, make sure in the network card configuration for the tcp/ip. in the dns section, make sure it is set to your server ip address. On your server, in it's dns section of the tcp/ip for the network card, make sure that it is set to same static ip address that you have currently for your server.

If the server is just a file server have you shared any directories? If the server is also a domain controller, something you would have done it is not done automatically, have you joined the pc's to the domain that the server serves?

Can you see the server? What errors are you seeing if you see the server and try and connect?
