clicking my mouse once results in a ?

whenever I click on my mouse 3/10 times.. it acts like I double clicked instead of just clicked it once.

it will open up two windows instead of one.. or something annoying like that.

I don't have a second mouse that I can troubleshoot with.. and would rather not buy one unless that's the actual problem.. but I wouldn't think it would be.

any ideas what's causing it?

Bad mouse perhaps? If it only happens sporadically you could check and see if it might be something like you have the enter key on your keyboard pressed when you click it, but it really just sounds like a bad mouse. Try unplugging your keyboard and clicking. And what do you mean it opens two windows? Are you referring to like a quick launch button?

yeah.

for instance if I click firefox.. it will open up 2 instances of it sometimes.. or if I click on a url it will open it twice.

if I click on the start menu .. it will open/close it (like I clicked it twice)

..my girlfriend also has her own user account on this computer.. and she said that she hasn't experienced it any at all yet.. so I don't know. I just don't want to buy a cruddy mouse to test to see if that's indeed the problem.

also my enter key isn't sticking, so it's not that.. if it was then it'd happen everytime I click it.

but I tested by clicking a url 10 times.. and 3 of those times it opened the link twice.. so it's not everytime.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the mouse driver?
