Is wearing your seatbelt the law in your state?

It is in MD and recently a local campaign is running to crack down on people not wearing their seatbelts.

Do you wear your seatbelt?

I thought it was the law in all states?!?1

Well, it's the law in florida. I always wear my seatbelt. I just feel weird without it on, like I'm missing something. I guess I've just gotten used to the feeling of restraint that it provides :)

Click It Or Ticket is a national campaign, from what they've said on the radio here. And yes, I believe wearing a seatbelt is required by law in SC.

Edit: Even if it's not, I wear it all the time, anyway.

F*CKING bullsh!t laws.

THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT LEGISLATE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

If you choose not to buckle up, the penalty should ONLY be the risk of your own life - NOT lining the coffers of a state which is ineffecient with it's f*CKING budget.

Addendum - I always wear my seat belt. I won't even turn on the ignition without doing so.

But it should be a personal choice left in the hands of the people - Just like all things consensual.

Hey, I don't want to end up with blood on my tires or a dent on my car because some dumbass didn't buckle up and I hit his body. The fact that it's the law should make the chances of this lower. ;)

It should be mandatory up until 15. If you're allegedly smart enough to operate a motor vehicle you ought to be smart enough to wear your seat belt. Or just make liscensing wait til 18 because if you're not smart enough to take responsibility for your own life you're certainly not fit to risk the lives of others with a car.

My car has automatic seatbelts so i'm used to having it on. when I get in someone else's car, I'm used to put it on without thinking about it now.

Agreed. It's my car and my life I'm endangering by choosing not to wear it.

Precisely. And if you should die in an accident, your genes, the ones that MAY have been responsible for your pre-disposition to disregard your own safety, will not be propagated, and thus, the gene pool will be refined further.

No offense. ;-)

None taken. Of all the dangerous things I've done in my life, I'm amazed I'm still alive.

rofl. Well, in that case, I guess the seatbelt is the least of your problems. ;-)

Of course, they always say, "It's the little things that kill ya." Or maybe they don't, and I just made that up. heh

Why should you be forced to wear a seatbelt when motorcyclists don't have to wear seatbelts. That is pretty dumb. Are they going to outlaw motorcycles next. See what happens when you let government dictate what is in your best interest.

Meh, I'm a child of the 80's. When being a kid was still dangerous and you could learn from your mistakes so you wouldn't do it later in life. Near death injuries build character, or memory loss. Can't remember which. :D
