Whenever I try to view this page, the browser window just closes. I think some kind of program is preventing me to find out info to block pop ups. I am using another computer just to reply to this thread. Anyone have any ideas?

I use PopUp Killer too, and it is great.
Now the popups are gone, I wish I had a good cookie manager. Does someone know any good one that support netscape 6, support session-wide enable/disable? I also knew one program (but forgot the name) that can tell what the cookies are doing, etc. are they for web habbit tracing or good cookies to remember your username? That feasture would be nice.

I use Naviscope which is free. Blocks popups, banner ads and other anoying images. It also does dnscaching and page prefetching.

Popups are so annoying, and I'd rather not use programs that'll cause more of a hassle than they're worth. I clicked all the links, and since then, not one popup!

I used to use POW, I found something I think works better. It is freeware from www.panicware.com

It is free for home use only. You can upgrade to the commercial version, I have had no problems with the free one.

Instead of modifying your hosts file, this may be easier for some people:

1) In Internet Explorer, go to Tools/Internet Options/Security tab/Restricted Sites.
2) Either raise the slider to HIGH, or press Custom Level and make sure Javascript and all ActiveX controls are disabled.
3) Then press the Sites button, and add the annoying pop up site to this list. Such as X10.com.

This should block all ads from these sites.

I periodically clean my PC's using Ad-Aware Ver. 5.62. First time I ran it it cleaned over 150 spyware and cookies. It was scary cleaning out so much stuff. Reboot worked fine and PC appeared to surf faster. There are never any guarantees with freeware software

Very good idea, I have IIS running with EVERYTHING disabled, so that all it does is give a page not accessible error immediately instead of timing out. I also have blackice running to block all incoming connections, so I don't have to worry about the security issues associated with running IIS.

I just use the HOSTS file, all those other programs may work fine but they use up system resources. The hosts file use none. I have put my HOSTS file up here http://www.thatproductions.com/HOSTS.txt (i put the txt extension on it so there would be no problems downlaod it). Everytime I get a new ad, I just up date the file. I practically have ZERO ads on my computer. It would a good thing to make a page so you dont have the Timed out or Not Available page but really, all we want it no ads right? Oh and, the HOSTS file is in alphabetical order so updating it is a very easy chore.
