CLI seti client and Windows ME

We have a box here at work just used to log into with Timbukto to know how to use Windows ME to help customers that use it. Basically it does nothing at all since no one ever logs into it. So I thought it a prime candidate for SetiLog's hidden mode where you run it and close the dos window and leave it running. Problem is when I try to run the CLI it tells me "this program cannot run in DOS mode" whether I do it from the batch file or straight at the DOS prompt. So for ME looks like the only option is the GUI version. I tried downloading SetiHide and getting it to work, but all it gives me when I try to run it (at least on NT) is "Unable to load library" and closes.

How can I assimilate this machine and not show Seti running?

Ah screw it. I installed the GUI client to run all the time. I run it all the time on the Mac and no one cares since no one uses that box either. 🙂 Plus my supervisor is gone all week and no one will use his box all week so I got his machine running seti this week. One more permanent box and one more box for one week! Yippee! 🙂 Bring it on, SilverBack!

i don't know much, but i do know thatwinme doesn't like dos very much. they toned down config.sys as well, but i don't know if any of that has to do with the cli not working. it might be on berkeley's end of things. after all, they were cal students, and everyone knows how dumb they are!

btw, guess where i go to school... 🙂

Hi Ben,

I have a WinMe ship that is running cli3.0.1, also used it with cli2.4. I use SetiDriver to keep it fed with WU's.

See what happens if you go to the START>RUN menu and type "command.com", I get a MS-Dos Prompt box. From that box I can do DOS commands as I could with any Win9x.

The text client of v3.0 works just fine on ME. I'm running it hidden on two systems right now with no problems. I think I've heard someone say they had problems getting seti v3.0 to run as a service in 98/ME though. Maybe someone else who knows a little more than I do can come along and help you get it going.🙂
