My wifi is the name of the coffee shop next door that doesn't have free wifi :)

It's called "<coffee shop> Free Wifi"

I'm sure it pisses them off.

Still rocking this...

SSID : 8675309
Password: foragoodtimecall

That's pretty good. A long time ago, a tech forum would have said you shouldn't even broadcast your SSID, but this is not that time, and this is not a tech forum.

Most "tech" people that tell you to hide your SSID are fools.

All it does is make your network more interesting to a hacker. Hiding the SSID does absolutely nothing to increase difficulty for the hacker while causing a HUGE increase in difficulty for yourself, your family, and your guests.

And now if I could get your opinion on MAC filtering, complete with an overview of spoofing. The "tech" being in quotes was a ribbing at the fact that the tech savvy people have left this forum a long time ago. I am a blue collar guy and my sadistic tendencies keep me coming back, albeit sparsely.

Yeah hiding wont really do much, but I guess it can be useful if you say, have a voip only SSID that you don't want to show up in the list of networks to connect to. But it will NOT make it more secure.

Same with hiding SMB shares. That's a false sense of security, all it does is tell the SMB client to not display it, but you can easily get a list of even the hidden ones with Linux or probably some tools in Windows too.

Most of the wifi names get old because many people have already used them, so I found some of the news [Spam link redacted].

One of my clients is a prestigious law firm at the top of a skyscraper downtown, and someone has a very strong SSID called "ACCESS DEM TITTIES!". It shows up on everyone's devices as the second network available :tearsofjoy:
