Cleartype, What do you Think About it?

A little while back (maby a week ago) I saw a post here about cleartype. I though, why not give it a try. Well, ever since I started using it, I can actually read the text on my LCD monitor better and I also think it looks more pleasing to the eye.

Also, I think that the people who just said it made everything blurry didn't take the time to change the settings. Cause the first setting hardly does anything, while the last (and strogest) setting nearly turns everything to bold type.

So, now comes my questions:
-Do you use cleartype
-If so, what do you think of it (and why)?
-If not, why not?

Just looking for people's opinions, and to figure out how many people actually use it.

Yes I use clear type
I think it is completely awesome. it removes the ugly jaggies from my text and make the characters look smooth, yet still crisp. it's like going from a dot matrix printer to a laser printer.

I use it on my LCD but not on my CRT. Definately helpful on the LCD but it's terrible on my CRT.

It makes everything fuzzy on my LCD, but I'm using VGA and MS says it's mainly for LCDs using digital. I'll give it another go when I swap this LCD out for a new one, my DVI port is dead.

I don't use it. It doesn't look as sharp (just bolder) as it does when it's disabled (dvi btw).

Linux's subpixel hinting looks better than Windows' ClearType IMO. It simply does a better job.

I think it's awesome, and one good reason to upgrade from W2K to XP/2003. But its effects are dependent on settings and the monitor -- I think it's less important with monitors with higher resolutions, though still noticable. Your best bet, assuming you already have XP/2003, is to turn it on and judge for yourself in your own circumstances.

I agree with xtknight, the font hinting on Linux seems to work better overall. Sadly I can't disable Cleartype in XP at work because it makes the font I use in PuTTy look even worse without it.

It's not meant to be used on CRT displays.

I use it for both my LCD's & like it a lot.

I love it. I even use it on my 2001FP with VGA. As long as it's at the right resolution (max resolution) then it looks just as though I am using a DVI cable.

the differance is more apparent in some fonts than others. for instance, it makes a big differance for italics text. its personal preference if you like it or not.

As the perfessor says, "It's not meant to be used on CRT displays. I use it for both my LCD's & like it a lot."

Ditto!

i use it and love it. but only for LCD. LCD's has a net of pixels that make text really sharp. Cleartype is simply Antialiasing. i use it cause it make text much more readable. but it's best judged by the person. some like it, some can't stand it. i tried, found i liked it, and have never looked back.

Looks horrible on my LCD (dvi). I've tried every variation and greatly disliked every single one of them.
